I am currently on depo.
I CANNOT take any pills or patches. I have been put on EVERY possible pill and the patch. I get so sick, it was just like when I was pregnant. (Only I had no idea that's how bad morning sickness would be all of those pre-pregnancy years.) So, I was put on depo.
Now, with depo, I am a raving bitch. And, I have gained back 10 of my pregnancy pounds I had lost. I am constantly bloated. AF is here to stay. And, I have NO drive, which is EXTREMELY odd for me!
I have 2 more months of this crap to go. Then, the only other alternative is the nuva ring. I want to get it badly, but it's a bit expensive compared to the shot at my doctor's office.

you poor thing. i'd hate to go through that crud.
i've had a couple of friends who haven't been able to take birth control pills. i have one friend who can't take any form of birth control due to her tirets (sp?) syndrome. worst part is that she may have to have a full histerectomy to take care of a lot of problems she's been having primarily with her ovaries. did i mention she's only 24........

Unfortunately I have a friend in almost the same scenerio, except the histerectomy. BUT she is also allergic to latex. I feel so bad for her.

that would be awful! i guess she has become the queen of alternative birth control methods. how awful to have to find non latex condoms and so on.
yeah i feel very badly for my friend. she might be able to get around it and only have the one ovary removed, but she's not sure yet.

I'm asking here cuz I don't think it's that serious.
I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years now. Normally I'm fine... no cramps (my main reason for BC). But this past time, I had cramps. And now that it's been gone for over a week, I'm having cramps all day every day. Not bad ones, just really uncomfortable.
Anyone ever have thsi problem or know what it might be?

i'd see about setting up an appt. with your ob/gyn to have it checked out. abnormal cramping is usually a sign something isn't quite right in your body.

Ortho-Lo has 25 mcgm of artificial estrogen...which is only 10 mcgm lower than OTC.
The lowest-dose pills--Alesse, Mircette, and Levlite--have 20 mcgm of estrogen.
If what you say is true, then women using Alesse--which seems to be one of the more commonly prescribed pills--should be dropping babies like whoa.

I was on Alesse for a long ass time...do I have children I don't know about?
I think when it becomes a problem with the lower dosage pills is when the person taking them is significantly overweight because that can affect the effectiveness of the pill. So if you're a larger girl on a low dose pill you should talk to your OB/GYN about the possibility of becoming pregnant.

No worries. I wouldn't have known the difference or the specifics either if I wasn't in the process of switching from Alesse to Ortho-Lo. The reason they put me on that specific one is that the dose was a little higher and will hopefully begin the end of the uterine jihad I've experienced since 12.

i realized when you talked about mercette that it was the first bc pill i was put on and didn't have great sucess.

so i've been on seasonale for a month now and i'm not really happy with it. i've had a lot of spotting and it's quite annoying. i never had this problem with my other bc pill. i'm going to give it another two months (the rest of the pack) and see where we stand.

But that doesn't happen to everyone, it just depends on the person. Also not to be too graphic, but when I first started on it I had "my friend" for like a month straight. But after that I don't get it at all. Some people don't like this but it doesn't bother me. Just like you I use condoms too, you can't be too safe.

I use Depo too, and the only problems I've had was the visit from "my friend" for 3 straight weeks(!) and the weight gain. It took 4 months for it to wear off before I could have another child. Other than that, it's pretty good!
