My freshman roommate was really nice and pretty cool. She was going through recruitment, too, but dropped out halfway through. We were both honors students and had one English class together (which we both hated because the prof was a few fruit loops shy of a full bowl). She had classes earlier than I did so I didn't have to worry about her waking up and she was really cool about me letting her use her computer (or at least I think she was, she never said anything about it!) I spent a lot of time at the house or out with my pledge class so we didn't really see each other a whole lot. I don't think I was the annoying roommate, but she was too nice to have said anything if I was. I moved into the chapter house the second semester my freshman year.
That was a little more of a struggle. It's tradition that you live with your mom (now key sis) your first semester in so they can teach you the ropes and make sure you're settling in. I lived in a 4-man in social corner (the big hangout spot) with my mom and two of her good friends and we ALL had different personalities. I was a night person who slept in (and missed quite a few classes.
) while two of them were early morning anal retentive types. Plus I had the habit of not spending weekend nights in my bed--I usually crashed either on a couch at a friends or with some other girls--so I think they thought I was a little promiscuous. I was really uncomfortable and could tell they really didn't enjoy having me as their fourth roommate. The good thing, though, is my now best friend lived next door and we would get together and commiserate. (I ended up living with her our entire senior year which was awesome, mostly because one of us was always gone--it was rare we both spent the night in our room). What really sucks is that one of the anal roommates went on to become our NC for elections and I
know she's the reason I got screwed out of a position my Jr. year. It was just not a good situation.
