When I went to Korea, of course I had to choose the really important stuff cuz you're only allowed to have 2 suitcases. I must have my favorite books around me and be supplied with a new, enjoyable book at least once every 3 weeks.
Other than that, well. My first time here, I had a tv, a washing machine (I need one of those), and a mat and just slept on the floor. As long as I have a fridge, tv, and washing machine. I'm fairly happy. Having some cute animal in the near vacinity also increases the quality of my life (I've had 10 hamsters over my life).
