Yes, it would be appropriate to give something for your best friend. As a matter of fact, collect all the gifts you can now before the baby showers. Moms-to-be are often neglected during that time b/c the gifts are for the coming baby.
Pink will be a most appropriate color, especially since you are having a baby girl.
