Ahhh...the Fraternal Day of Silence.

This is one of my favorite brotherhood activities of the probationary period.

At Shenandoah, we put this into practice as a day of no social talking to people that are neither brothers or probationary members. In our daily duties, such as work, class, and meetings, we do talk.

We impress upon our entire brotherhood that this day is ment to reflect upon the many virtues of silence. In music, the silence that is kept is just as important as the sound that is made. During rehearsals, how much time is wasted when artists begin talking when their conductor cuts them off. In life, we do not realize the importance of social interaction until we chose to withdrawl from it for just one single day.

By keeping this silence, many classes of probationary members have commented on how much they have learned from this day, and every semester I am reminded of this as well.
