I understand there are collectors of theta badges and other fraternity badges out there that belong to their respective groups, but why put them on ebay ? why not sell them privately or something?

Ticks me off, too. All we can do is try to buy & retain our own badges when we can. Unfortunately, if the original owner of the badge did not care enough to make appropriate arrangements for this special piece, then I can't really blame the pin collectors.
