The caste system is not JUST a legal system, it didn't even BEGIN as a legal system. It is a tenet of their religion and social system. People are untouchables because their society and religion say so. What the law says won't MATTER if people think that it isn't proper or right.
And please say why you resent cannonized? I was not using it in the Catholic sense, merely to indicate that Gandhi is pretty much Universally loved. He is. Everyone except you likes Gandhi.
