no, greek life is not for everyone, but most girls who really want to be a part of it can find a place. it is true, each campus has a few houses like the ones he described (rich, great clothes, perhaps elitist)..... but there are many more sororities at each school that are all about genuine-ness and individuality. the sisters don't necessarily change themselves to conform to one superficial ideal, but they do respect & enjoy each others' diversity. there is no reason why you wouldn't thrive in one of these types of sororities.

and i'd like to know exactly what about your personality makes you "not sorority material." as long as you're generally a pleasant, sweet person, there is no such thing as having a non-sorority personality. i, for example normally prefer male friends, and am pretty reserved. yet i fit in fine with my sisters. i admire and respect them, and i think that they feel the same about me.

------> is it possible that your boyfriend is maybe afraid of you getting too independent, and of eventually losing you? because if you pledge, you will without a doubt have a major social life that does not depend on him. if you stay independent, however, he knows you'll have to rely on him when you want to go out.
