I don't think the entire show was scripted -- I mean, think of some of the fluff they made episodes out of. What would be the point of scripting that? There's a very "scripted" vibe to a lot of reality shows ("Joe Millionaire," anyone?) but I didn't really get that with "The Osbournes" much.

My theater class group did an exercise like this once for a project -- performed a scene from a play that was integrated into real life. Basically, we were trying to blur the boundaries between what theater is and what real life is, trying to force people to ask themselves where you draw the distinction? Because, in essence, aren't we almost always performing in one sense or another?

Part of me thinks this episode was trying to play around with that concept. The other part of me thinks they were just wanting to play a stupid joke on all the viewers.
