Thanks everyone. Your replies have been helpful. My mother, who crossed at SC State in 1976 ( I don't remember the chapter name), doesn't recall any unofficial "mascots" during that time. Neither she nor any of her sorors heard of the frog until she went to a boule a couple of years ago. Maybe it is because we lived in Germany for many years and now live in Alaska.
