I have heard a lot of stories about the awful things that local sororities do and how they haze and have poor leadership, etc. Well I would just want to say that I am in a local sorority and I can't say that any of the rumors I've heard are true. We are very involved with the school and are in extremely good standing with the administration. We have won Club of the Year at my school for the past 2 years in a row and have sponsored a vast variety of community service projects at my school including a penny drive for the Pediatric AIDS foundation, 2 blood drives, Take back the Night, etc. In addition, I would just like to say that WE DO NOT HAZE. I just pledged this past semester and I was never once made to feel inferior. The sisters definitely listened to us and when there were things that we felt uncomfortable doing we were told not to worry and we just wouldn't have to do them. As a result, I have formed a very close bond with my sisters and whenever I put on my letters I feel so proud to be part such a wonderful organization. When I hear comments from members of national organizations that are degrading to locals, it makes me angry, because while we may not have a national board behind us, we have a great executive board and 30 sisters.

That is wonderful that YOUR local sorority does not haze. (I'm not being sarcastic, really, it is good.) However, not all local sororities are like that. The local sororities and fraternities at my last school hazed - openly. Because locals don't have a national board, they differ a lot from campus to campus and GLO to GLO.
