My freshman year at MTSU, I heard a rumor that a little store just off campus that offered the "coldest beer in town" was acutally the center of the universe. The story says that some cult group came through town in the 1960's and declared it the center of the knwon universe. I've also heard they have a hellmouth in the back beer freezer.
Anyways, all who enter the store are doomed to die in Murfreesboro. Supposedly, the only way to break the curse is to urinate on the marker at the center of the state--it's only about three blocks down the road.
There are other rumors, of course, but this one is my favorite.
