Hi Shopgirl!!!
I, too, have been thinking about getting highlights! The only 2 things that i'm apprehensive about are 1) the cost (even re-touching costs a lot ) 2) if the stylist messes up my hair (I have Asian hair, and I'm so afraid of the stylists turning my hair orange!! Also, I know that I'll be so tempted to dye my hair regardless, so I don't know how dyeing your hair would impact the highlights (would probably turn it brassy?)
You know, it's actually very good that you have never dyed your hair! Sometimes I regret dyeing my hair, b/c ever since I've started (hmm, I think I started about freshman year in HS) I have never been able to stop!!! I have dyed my hair probably...hmm...close to 20 times??!!! Scary, isn't?! I'm not sure if it's been THAT much, but once you start--you can't stop! (I tried to stop dying my hair, by dyeing it black again, but then I got the urge to dye it all over again LOL)
How old is your little sister? I've always wanted a younger sister! I always thought it would be fun to share hair, makeup, fashion tips, advice, etc. . I only have an older sister! Yes, I thought about that, too!!!!! I've always wondered how come L'oreal Feria doesn't sell its conditioner seperately!!! I know many people who use Feria, and they LOVE the conditioner!
Thanks for the tip on the olive oil! My mom and I always use canola oil in cooking...now I'll have to tell her how healthy it is .
And CONGRATULATIONS on graduating!!!!! You must be sooo very excited . All that hard work has finally paid off!!! Hey, do you know if the U of A b-ball team has a good recruiting class coming in??
mgdzkm433--CONGRATULATIONS on yoour upcoming marriage!! I know you will be one beautiful bride!!

*What's your hairstyle?*
Extremely close cut (almost bald)
medium copper golden blonde (that's what Loreal calls it)
and
natural (no relaxer)
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair? Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
I despise any style that smacks of jerry curls, duck tails, relaxed hair <black male>

 Shopgirl!!!
You're so lucky to be so close w/your sister!!! My sister is 23...yep, big age difference there!!!! Is your sister interested in any particular sororities? Hey, you should persuade her to come onto GC, too!! My sister is an alumna of UCLA, graduated '99 (well, walked in the ceremony in '00), and was a KD there. The age difference btwn my sister and me, I think, does not help any--but also b/c her personality and mine are so different! (I'm a dreamer, she's a rational.) But sometimes we are very close!! Unfortunately--it kinda depends on the day . She has several "moods" sometimes . But I love my sister very dearly!! I just wish sometimes that we had the closeness that you and your sister seem to have!!!
Oh, I meant basketball . No worries though!!
Oh, what does Hasta Pasta mean??

Hey there Newbie!!!
Don't get me wrong, my sister and I have our momentS...notice the plural ...They are just different momentS, compared to when we were younger. But anyway, that's pretty cool that your sister is a KD from UCLA. My sister is very interested in Sigma Kappa, for the obvious reasons , but I have told her time and time again, that it's o.k. if she goes another way. She's kind of interested in Theta and Gamma Phi Beta, so we'll see. One of my sorority sisters has two sisters that go to our school, one is a PiPhi and the other went Gamma Phi. So, I understand that the sister, legacy thing doesn't always pan out. However, I really hope that it does in my case. I believe that your sister and I are from the same year. I should have graduated in '99 , but I took some time off, so it held me back a bit. That's o.k. though.
Oh yeah, I don't know about the basketball thing, either...sorry...again
Hasta means "see you", such as Hasta Manana (see you tomorrow). I just say pasta to be silly ...since it rhymes !!!

My hair WAS long (like below the shoulder length), straight and natural jet black. I used to wear it up with hair sticks, braids, or in two buns (kinda like Chun Li from Street Fighter)...my roommate (who is African American and knows/loves hair)always experimented new styles on me and she also put twisties in the front. However, I kinda took my frustration out on my hair a couple days after my breakup and I got it cut real short. Now it's just below my chin. Oh well, it'll grow back--and nice to have the wash and go thing when u got a summer job. I hope it grows back long enough in time for our fall formal though lolz.
I use this black gel (recommended by my roommate) from Sally's whenever i recreate the twisties...it holds up great...and Aussies spritz when i curl it for going out. I use this Philippine hair products Sunsilk shampoo and Cream Silk conditioner in black shine.
On the opposite sex I have no preference for hairstyles...i like slightly floppy hair sometimes, where u can push it back with your fingers...buzz cuts are alright, and spiky is always cute. ;D

*What's your hairstyle?
Very dark w/ sorta light highlights, about medium length. I have natural curly hair, but I usually blow dry it straight.
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair?
Anglo whites should leave the black dye alone. Non-whites should leave that blond dye alone. Guys, if their hair is less straight, please keep keep those curls under control.
Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
Depends on the guy.
*Do you have any fave products for hair?
Frizz-ease!!!!
*Any tips to share?
Sun-in...baaaaaaadddd!!!!

*What's your hairstyle?
I am in a growing out phase. for the past 8 years, my hair has never been past my shoulders. Right now it is a lil below the shoulders, brown: but i think i am going to redye it darker because my last dye job faded pretty quick (I do it myself.) And i got this crazy ideas that i could get these long sweeping, wispy bangs... i went to a beauty college cuz it was cheap... man that was a mistake. So I am keeping them to the side and hoping they grow out a bunch by next year. It's also "wavy".
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair?
I like that it can shine and get straight and be somewhat manageable. However, most of the time, it frizzes, the curls have a mind of their own, and if i straighten it and go out into the rain... i can forget that hairstyle. I do have to use a lot of added heat and styling products just to get it under control.
Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
*giggle* i like clean cut guys, but there is something about the artsy ones that have the slightly longer hair but it's not enough to pull it back. (Think Matchbox 20's lead singer.) I like spikes too, as long as they aren't superglued or anything. (My prom date could pop balloons with his hair, they were that sharp.)
*Do you have any fave products for hair?
got2B straightening lotion: it kinda smells like malibu rum which was kinda gross, but my hair didn't have as many flyaways and was somewhat straight before actually ironing it.
Salon Selectives Deep Conditioner
*Any tips to share?
I agree: stay away from sun-in

*What's your hairstyle?
I have what my salon calls the "big hair" hair cut where the hair is layered underneath. It's really cool and my hair looks different every time I style it! I have dirty blond hair with light brown and red highlights. I'm obsessed about my hair and get a new haircut every time I go to the salon.
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair?
Well, I tried to dye my own hair darker one time, and it turned green on the end. A sister of mine has such straight shoulder-length hair and wears these little headbands all the time and it looks awesome. Now, when I do it, it looks geeky. A big dislike of mine are people who bleach their hair blond so much that it ruins their hair and it starts looking like straw.
*Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
Um, it depends on the guy. If the guys spends more time than me on my hair and it's noticeable, that's a turnoff. I prefer short hair on guys but some can really pull off long hair.
*Do you have any fave products for hair?
I like Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme. I also like their spray gel because it really holds.
*Any tips to share?
If you have naturally blond hair and decide you want medium brown, don't dye it yourself unless you like the green look.

*What's your hairstyle?
dark brown with natural red and blonde hi-lights, short, framing my face, bone-straight
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair?
i like my color. i hate that my hair is thick, so it always poofs when i dry it
*Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
short hair. i hate seeing men with long hair
*Do you have any fave products for hair?
thermasilk shampoo and condiitoner
spray-on leave-in conditioner for times when i don't need to wash my hair
one of my sisters has a straightening iron that i just love 'cause it has an edge that will curl your hair under or flip it out if you want it to, at the same time it depoofs my hair
*Any tips to share?
don't dye your hair with green and blue streaks rigth after dying it blonde unless you want the green and blue to stay in for months

*What's your hairstyle?
Shoulder length soft curls with long layers. It's kind of a bright auburn right now, but I'm going to dye it back to a semi-natural colour before I go to Italy--I've been told my red curls will attract more attention than I want to deal with
*Likes/Dislikes about your hair or other ppl's hair?
The dye has taken a lot of the natural curl out, so I have these soft waves that never go in the right direction if I don't put anything on my hair. I love the fact that it's ringlets if I put mousse or curl spray on.
Do you have a fave hairstyle that you like to see on the opposite sex?
On my young man, he has this goregous dark hair that he usually trims short, and I love it like that. He's been aping the Caesar cut for a while, but I'm not sure about that.
I have this thing for dark curls on a guy, just soft and short around the face. V. romantic and wonderful.
*Do you have any fave products for hair?
Paul Mitchell leave-in Conditioner, L'Oréal's Curl Booster spray. I use either Curl Vive or Suave vanilla floral shampoo. If it smells good, I'm there. Especially vanilla. Yum!
*Any tips to share?
Beer. I mean it. Rinse your hair with standard Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and it gives you shine like no tomorrow. Obviously, shampoo and condition afterwards to avoid smelling like a bar. But it works.
