Over the last 15 years of this thread, people have mentioned disliking "Little Drummer Boy". While I like the song itself, what bothers me is the playing the drum for a newborn who probably wants to sleep! The year the thread started, I had a baby and all I could think of when I heard the song was, "Doooon't wake up that baby!"
With Jesus being a baby boy (I swear that boys are all such light sleepers), I keep picturing Mary's mental reaction when the drummer boy asks if he can play for them.

 | That's what ruins the song for me, too. One of my very earliest memories is of having a migraine, and from the first time I heard the song, I though, "poor baby Jesus is going to have migraines."

The one with hearing reindeer hooves on the roof did the same thing to me.

 | Oh yeah. Meanwhile, I always have to suppress a chuckle (or an eye roll, or both) when I get to "The cattle are lowing, the poor baby wakes/But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes” in "Away in a Manger." I find the no crying part very hard to believe.

It's a conundrum - both man and divine, so which side wins out when awakened by a cow?

Meanwhile, add to my least-favorite list anything by Pentatonix.

 | The bloodline speaks.

I commented, "I somewhat admire their singing, I just don't have to like it." I plan to stand behind that.

It always made me feel very guilty and sad and I promised to always be home for Christmas...until last year, when my fiancé and I went to Paris for the holidays. That song came on in one of the restaurants and I was MIZ.
 | That song is seriously sad - it's what "Blue Christmas" tries to be, to some extent.

I now hate all "All I Want For Christmas" type songs - they make me reflect that, yeah, all I want in the world is my niece back. So, ugly crying ensues.
"Blue Christmas", strangely enough, is one I never liked, but now I do.

 Grief - it changes things.

 | FWIW, my mama's (much) elder brother was killed during WWII. She could never hear White Christmas or I'll Be Home For Christmas without thinking of him. She felt that way up through her last Christmas.

I'm going on record that I haven't heard a single carol outside of church yet this year. I'm ready to start singing myself!
