Ha ha, yes! I don't know how i ever got through first dates before I was old enough to have a drink to calm my nerves.
On appropriate dress... well, I probably wouldn't have agreed to the date had I not been attracted to him, so, I'd say you don't have to stray far from your norm.
however, I always appreciate it if my date dresses up a little bit, it shows that they are putting an effort in and care about how they look, so, I'd say:
- button down/polo shirt
- khakis or other nice pants (no jeans on a first date, please!!!)
- nice shoes
- a tiny bit of cologne
- no outrageous jewelry (although I can't stand earrings/bracelets/etc on guys anyway... a simple necklace is okay)
Okay, so maybe I'm a little picky
But honestly, the date that impressed me most was a guy who came in a suit. He had just come from work, but still....dayum...almost any guy looks good in a suit
