What Should Guys Wear????
Hey ladies
Ive been reading the posts about what girls should wear on dates and such, but what should guys wear. I know a lot of guys out there have no fashion sense, and when it comes to dates they just look unkempt. Any thoughts? Could I guy wear anything on a date that would turn you off and vice versa. Thanks Much |
Unless you have the body of an Adonis or are skiing, PLEASE skip the turtlenecks.

"I highly recommend the "I'm with stupid shirt" that has an arrow pointing towards the unsuspecting girl. It's quite the riot. Compliment it with large aviator style sunglasses. I'm talking the kind they sell at wallgreens with lenses that cover half your face.

Well, it depends on what you're doing on the date....
Lately, I've been all about the "slacker/preppy boy look" on guys So for a casual date, I want my guy to have on slacker shorts, a nice fitted tee, Birkenstocks, and a necklace made of hemp with shells on them. A nice tan, bulging biceps, and smirky grin would be nice too:) Ok, so I'm describing my crush's everyday wear. But, OMG!!!!! It's so sexy!!! On a more dressy date, I like a button up Structure shirt, black trousors, and nice black shoes....with a shell necklace and spiky hair...Yummy!! OMG!! This is my gay friend's everyday wear!!! LOL..well, I guess when you admire someone, you like their style too! Okay, what not to wear.....um, I agree turtlenecks, grungy t shirts that have seen better decades, tube socks with shorts, mesh tank tops, sweaters with animals on them, anyting polyestor, jeans that are soooo tight you know they're losing feeling in their groind:) Ivory |
I think it depends on the girl... try to judge what to wear based on the girl.
I mean, I'm very preppy, and LOVE love love the J. Crew look (button down shirt and khaki's with some reefs or other acceptable flip-flops) but I know some girls who wouldn't like that ( I have no clue why not!). As a general rule, though, don't wear jeans. Khakis, seersuckers, linen pants, yes, but no jeans on the first date. That's my little peeve. :) |
do you think its ok for a guy to wear a baseball cap on the first date?

If you need help on how to dress for a first date, you have some serious issues.
I say be yourself. If the girl only likes you for the way you dress rather than the person you are, she's not worth the thought in your mind. I do agree that you need to wear something appropriate and that is appealing to her. Keep in mind you only do this for the first few weeks or until things are hitting off really well. Don't keep doing the 'dress to impress' thing. If you keep doing the same thing chicks start to think it's the norm. Also remember that you don't want to look like you just rolled out of bed or came back from the beach. I agree with CarolinaDG, you have to get a vibe from the chick and a feel for what type of shiznitz she likes. I wouldn't wear reef sandals on a first date. I'd say go with a casual dress style, it depends though on where you are going. If you are going out to eat at a decent place, go casual dress. If it's NICE and then you plan on going out to a bar/club afterwards, the black dress shoes, black pants, black socks, some kind of dark blue shirt to go with it-- probably a structure shirt that buttons down the middle. If your ears are pierced, throw in some silver hoops. Some sort of a silver necklace and a nice watch. Now your probably looking enticing to the girl and all you need to do is throw on some Aqua DiGio. make sure you have on a black belt. I'd say put in some gel or wax in your hair. Depending on the type of club, the style for your hair will change. If I'm going to some club that plays Trance,House, Techno, etc..etc.. I'll spike it up-straight, or I'll spike it back but in different directions where it looks kinda wild and throw on a pair of sun glasses(This look gets girls attention and makes it more easy for chicks to point you out.) This look will make you look like a Rockstar and seriously boost your ego and ability to hit on her. You need to remember though, girls like confidence but not too much cockyness/arrogance. If your going to a hip/hop club i'd gel it all down forward. If for some reason the chick isn't interested in you by the end of the night or doesn't think your attractive, look around you in the club and notice the other girls looking at you and leave the stupid chick behind. I'd go off with the ones that are into me and make the other one find her way home. Do whats in your best interest and BE YOUR SELF. |
First dates are interesting and fun . . .
The first two hardest things are done . . . you guys formed enough of a potential to go out on a first date and wonders of wonders . . you asked! So Relax a little. Now you just need to enjoy the night in a way that allows her to enjoy it with you. Remember why you are there . . . the first date is there to form more of a mental and physical connection and have her thinking about you in a good way. That means you have to be able to talk . . a movie is a bad first date lol. A club or active bar is also a bad idea for a date. These are places where you go with your friends . . . So you pick the place to help you talk and connect it should have dimmer lighting, upbeat music, and affordable food . . . Oh and if it serves alcohol, if you are old enough to drink . . its a plus. |

On appropriate dress... well, I probably wouldn't have agreed to the date had I not been attracted to him, so, I'd say you don't have to stray far from your norm. however, I always appreciate it if my date dresses up a little bit, it shows that they are putting an effort in and care about how they look, so, I'd say:
Okay, so maybe I'm a little picky :) But honestly, the date that impressed me most was a guy who came in a suit. He had just come from work, but still....dayum...almost any guy looks good in a suit :D |

Why shouldnt guys look nice in a Polo Shirt with their Letters? What the F is blue jeans shabby shorts or some other attire that has a beer commercial or shoe shot on it!
Girls dont have to wear frilly frocks but look nice in shorts or what ever! If I had a date in College and went to pick her up and looked like Daisey Mae, I would leave! Look Like a Slob then they figure you will act the part! What doe he's and she's want a slob or a neat guy or gal? Do the math you morons!!!!!!!!!!!!;) :) |
Ha ha, thanks Tom.
I get annoyed every time I see a couple where she has put tons of effort and time into looking her very cutest and dressing up and he is totally scruffy. Guys should make some effort and girls shouldn't make so much effort if the guy isn't. Course, I notice it happens more the younger the couple is (high school is the worst). By the time a guy is 40 either his wife is dressing him or he's figured that if he's ever going to get any he had better dress well! |

YES YES YES YES LOOOOOVE the Aqua DiGio. MMMMMMMMMMM. Other than that--dress appropriately for the destination. My bf wore jeans and a t and a button down on our first date and my heart went WHAM WHAM WHAM in my chest because the man seriously looks so amazing in jeans he should never wear anything else.... but our first date was at a casual bar/grill type place so jeans were appropriate....if first date had been at Spago, no jeans. And yes. BE YOURSELF, that is the most important advice. Its the PERSON inside that's important, not the clothing. :D Amy |
MMmm.... Yeah, UF, I think I had it right the first time, you're definitely not my type...
... but if the girl's into that, that's great. Two points that I want to reiterate: -BLACK shoes equals BLACK belt. BROWN shoes equals BROWN belt. If you are in doubt about things matching find a gay friend. Seriously. Gay men have the best taste in clothes (just make sure you actually do still look straight) -Yeah, now that I think of it, the Reefs thing definitely wouldn't be good on a date, unless it's an outside thing or something. But I'm still sticking to my preppy frat boy look! Yum, southern men! And PotentialPledge... Seriously, just be yourself. I mean, dress nice for you. The look that completely melted my heart was when my (now ex) boyfriend came to pick me up on our second date in an Abercrombie sweater and khaki-colored pants...they were linen, though... his mom tried to advise against it (it was December), but he didn't listen. One of my other favorite outfits that one of my exes wore once was these black and white plaid pants and a black tight t-shirt (raarr!). He stopped me as we were walking to class and asked if it was all right (I could barely mutter a "yes," my heart was beating so fast!). Don't fake it, but try to base on the girl. If I came on a date with a little halter J. Crew dress on, and the guy was wearing one of his faded frat t-shirts, jeans, and reefs, I'd be pretty insulted... even though I love that look when the guys are going to class. (Can you tell I'm not in school right now and missing my frat boys?!) On another note (I'm sorry, I'm rambling, but you've combined two of my greatest loves: guys and clothes) I sat at a bar one night with one of the Sigma Chi's, and we were talking about what the guys around us were wearing that wasn't appropriate (it was about midnight and one of the guys had his sunglasses on hanging from Croakies! I mean, yes, I love that during the day... but at a BAR?!). We talked about what made jeans good jeans, and what made jeans bad jeans (y'all, I don't know about where y'all are from, but here carpenter jeans went out about 3 years ago!) when it's appropriate to wear a sorority's t-shirt (we spotted a guy wearing a Mallard Ball shirt... that screams "Hey, look, and ADPi liked me so obviously I'm good enough for you... right?" NOT appropriate at a bar... around campus, definitely, but not at a bar) I know it sounds mean and shallow, but get one of your girl friends to sit with you and play "fashion police" if you need them to. We know what we like. I mean, don't get me wrong, the Sigma Chi and I weren't doing this mean-spiritedly at all. He just was wondering what I thought guys should wear. My friends tease me because I'm SOOOOOO picky about what a guy wears. But, then again, most girls aren't as much, so don't worry!!! Anyway, enough rambling... Good luck on your dates to come!!!!:) And remember: BROWN belt, BROWN shoes... BLACK belt, BLACK shoes! |
