I've seen funnier "confident" intro letters.

Ditto. Nothing about this really stood out to me. He threw in a joke about shining shoes and getting coffee, but other than that, I'm not seeing a lot of "out-of-the-box thinking." It's not like he needs to rely on his creativity, either.. he seems to have a lot going for him. With this letter, he might have put himself slightly ahead of other graduates with his same credentials... but that's about it.

He said no "unbelievably special skills or genius eccentricities."

I agree with some others that the letter didn't particularly wow me in terms of humor, creativity or blunt honesty. I'd probably want to talk to him (despite his use and misspelling of the word "crapp" in a business letter) because he sounds like a good intern candidate, but the statements in the emails that the letter was "amazing" or "the best cover letter I've ever received" just tells me they're used to really boring, canned letters.

Agreed. I also think that maybe they liked it because he already knows what he's getting into and is fine with it. He's not deluded with ideas of solving a million dollar problem or becoming an intern superstar, he's humble and ready to learn from the pros.

"Crapp" seemed like a link to a url, so maybe that's why?
