I have to say, I am pleased there are Alpha Gams at both chapters (squirrels are in her blood), but she and I both know there are no guarantees. We have not met the Alpha Gams at Bama yet, but I have to say the Alpha Gams at CMU were wonderful and I think a great fit for my daughter! The next few months will definitely give me grey hairs as I await her decision!! Thank you everyone for your support!!!

Hello All,
This is probably the wrong thread, but I am slightly clueless. I am going on an exchange year to UT Austin, from University College London. I will be going into Junior Year.
Anyone ever had an international student join a sorority for a year? My friend is also currently on exchange there and he has joined a fraternity
Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, it is possible. Just sign up like any other student. Your main problem is going to be getting recs since they are required at UT. There are some alumnae groups in London so you could check to see what you can find. And do a search here for recs and exchange/foreign students.

Hello Ladies! A few weeks ago my daughter decided she is going to Alabama! Unfortunately, she was unable to attend the Preview Weekend due to a conflict with her cheerleading schedule. She is hoping to secure invites to the March 15-17 teas, but unsure that she will. We are still working on recs for many sororities at Bama, so any insight would be much appreciated. There are several sororities that we have absolutely NO contacts or friends of friends for. She is so excited about Alabama, so I am so relieved she has finally found her "home".

If you've exhausted your other avenues, it may be time get familiar with the Detroit Area Alumnae Panhellenic. They have a lovely scholarship tea in April, in St. Clair Shores, but it is the same day as IRD
They have a Facebook and a web page, although I think the Facebook is more up to date:
https://www.facebook.com/DetroitAlum...nicAssociation
https://sites.google.com/site/detroi...icorg/calendar
Unfortunately, a lot of sororities don't have representation in DAPA though. The ones with a * don't have representation:
Pi Beta Phi*, Kappa Alpha Theta *, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta *, Alpha Chi Omega: 1903*, Delta Delta Delta:1902 *, Alpha Xi Delta: 1904, Chi Omega: 1903 *, Sigma Kappa: 1905, Alpha Omicron Pi: 1905, Zeta Tau Alpha: 1909, Alpha Gamma Delta: 1909,
Alpha Delta Pi: 1909*, Delta Zeta: 1910, Phi Mu: 1911, Kappa Delta: 1912, Sigma Sigma Sigma: 1951, Alpha Sigma Tau: 1951, Alpha Sigma Alpha: 1951, Alpha Epsilon Phi: 1951 *, Theta Phi Alpha: 1951, Phi Sigma Sigma: 1951, Delta Phi Epsilon: 1951 *, Sigma Delta Tau, 1951 *
You might have better luck with Chicago-
http://www.cnwsap.org/
They are missing some of the same groups though:
Alpha Epsilon Phi Sigma Delta Tau
Alpha Sigma Tau Chi Omega
Theta Phi Alpha Phi Sigma Sigma
Delta Phi Epsilon Phi Mu
Kappa Delta
They do have info about getting recs for represented groups though.
We have some women involved in Alumnae Panhellenic in our Chicago alumnae groups that are in my Area. I'll get some contact information for you.

You might try the national web sites of the groups you don't have. Most have "chapter locators" on their web sites and you can see if they have a nearby alum group. Also, be sure you've asked those who have agreed to do a rec if they know anyone in the groups you need. Often someone will.

Kappa Alpha Theta has Alumnae groups in the following Michigan cities: Birmingham, Grand Rapids, Grosse Pointe, Kalamazoo, Lansing. PM me, Go Alpha Gam, and I'll send you contact info on the group that's closest to where you live.

We have an alumnae group, we've just been a little sporadic about the APH involvement. Obviously I can help on this one if Detroit does not pan out.

Do recommendations have to come from metro area alumnae associations? (I have no idea how this works, not having been in an NPC house) If not, you could probably get recs for most of those missing houses through U of M. I imagine you'll find a boatload of Theta, Chi O, Deeph, SDT, and (maybe) AEPhi alums in the West Bloomfield/Farm Hills area as well. If you're still stuck I can potentially get you some names of alums I know from the U of M chapters--I can get you every starred house on that list except for G Phi, but I do know a G Phi alum from UCLA (U of M's chapter lost their charter due to poor recruiting, I believe after my freshman year)

No. They just have to come from an alumna. Some sororities also allow collegiate members (from another school) to submit them. The suggestion was made to contact the closest alumnae association to attempt to secure a contact there.

The Grand Rapids Panhellenic has almost all of the chapters that Detroit doesn't. I can put you in touch, and I'll respond tomorrow to the PM you sent me.

Yay! So happy Bama was able to recruit such a terrific student. Wishing her all the best in her journey south.
