Annoying roomate(s)

Ahhh bad roommates...just recently, I lived with a girl that I didn't really know very well but I wanted to move off campus and she needed a roomie. It was a great and wonderful for a while, she never went into my room or ate my food, etc...without my permission. Well, I wanted to get a dog and discussed it with her for about a month before actually looking into getting one. I even let her help me decide which dog to get, she went to the shelter with me and everything. Well, after getting the dog home, I started crate training and she would leave my dog in her crate when she was home and I was not When she got back from a beach trip, she left a box of granola squared with chocolate on them in the floor, well we stepped out for a few minutes and left my dog on the couch. When I went back in, she had eaten 2 or 3 of the squares. What did the roommate do? Did she apologize? Nope, she started yelling at my dog for eating food she left on the floor!
Also, this girl couldn't cook AT ALL, she cooked hot dogs on the oven rack with no pan or foil and wondered why the oven always smoked and made the smoke alarms go off... When she finished cooking with a pan, she would immediately take it to the sink and run it under water (it warps the pan) and put teflon pans in the dishwasher (seriously, who does that?!).
Then, two months before our lease was supposed to end, she decided that she wanted to move into an apartment with someone else to "help her out" because the old roomie had moved out after graduation. She offered to still pay her part of our rent but considering her parents paid her bills and she quit her job shortly after making this decision, I decided to just find my own place. Needless to say, I'm happily living in a 1 bedroom apartment with my dog and happy as a clam!

Well, not everyone is a great cook or really savvy in the kitchen. But, about her leaving your dog in the crate when she was there and you were not: It was your dog, not hers. Therefore, it was your responsibility to take care of it. It's not her job to feed it, play with it, take it outside for potty breaks, walk it, etc, when you aren't there. If you were concerned about the amount of time that your dog was spending in the crate when you weren't home, perhaps you should have rethought your decision to get one. Your roommate only has to agree that it's okay for you to get a dog. She doesn't have to agree to help with its care. As for the chocolate around your dog, that was stupid and dangerous. You definitely deserved an apology for that one!

Not unless she expressly told her. Not everyone knows about chocolate and animals.

I put my teflon in the dishwasher, along with everything else (except my cast iron skillet).

My theory: if it doesn't make it through the dishwasher cycle, I didn't need it to being with.

Ditto for the washing maching and a majority of my clothes.

I was clear with her that she wasn't responsible for the dog, but a dog shouldn't be left in a crate when someone is home. She agreed but didn't follow through which was what gets me, if you say you'll do something, do it. If she didn't want the dog to go potty in the apartment (at that time, the dog was still being potty trained) then all she had to do was to take her outside for all of 3 minutes. I never forced my ex-roommate to care for my dog or to pay any money for toys, food, treats, whatever. The amount of time she spent in the crate never bothered me but if someone is home, there is no need for her to be crated unless you are asleep or in the shower, if you go to any reputable trainer or website, they will agree.
