My best advice to you would be to search for threads about your particular school and read. A lot.

Get recs! They are a must at many of the SEC schools (no, it doesn't matter what Panhellenic told you.)

Make sure you can actually afford to do this BEFORE you rush. Realistically. Don't be all "well, if I work 50 hours a week and sell my plasma, I can do it!" but really sit down, look at your budget and decide if this is a financial commitment that you can take on. It's just that, a huge financial commitment and it's also a bummer to have someone receive a bid, then have to depledge due to finances.

Depending on the school, it's pretty normal to work to pay for your dues, but you also on't want to be unable to PARTICIPATE in your sorority because you're killing yourself at work to pay for it.
