Sophomore PNM

Hi! I'm Le (pronounced Leigh). I'll be a sophomore starting this fall. I go to an SEC school and this will be my first time rushing. I have a 3.32 GPA and no recs.

I'm nervous about a lot of things but mainly if I'll find the sorority that fits me (and me them) and also if I can pay for this on my own. I'm a first generation college student and it's not even feasible to ask my parents to pay for this. Dues at my school are about $2,000 a semester and I already take out loans to pay for everything else. But this is something I really want and I think I'll do whatever I can to make it happen. Any (helpful) advice is much appreciated.

My best advice to you would be to search for threads about your particular school and read. A lot.

Get recs! They are a must at many of the SEC schools (no, it doesn't matter what Panhellenic told you.)

Make sure you can actually afford to do this BEFORE you rush. Realistically. Don't be all "well, if I work 50 hours a week and sell my plasma, I can do it!" but really sit down, look at your budget and decide if this is a financial commitment that you can take on. It's just that, a huge financial commitment and it's also a bummer to have someone receive a bid, then have to depledge due to finances.

Depending on the school, it's pretty normal to work to pay for your dues, but you also on't want to be unable to PARTICIPATE in your sorority because you're killing yourself at work to pay for it.

I'd add that you may want to edit this post, and remove your personal info. Also, your GPA isn't what I would call "high" and not having recs is going to hurt you at an SEC school. Why aren't you trying to get recs? There are ways to get them, by contacting NPC alumni groups in your area, I believe.

Yes, as summer_gphib wisely advised, do remove your personal info. Just the spelling of your name will make you easy to identify on here. Also, you're going to need recs at an SEC school.
