When I was born, my parents and I (I'm the oldest) lived in a two-flat on the north side of Chicago. Our upstairs neighbor was my dad's sister, her husband, and their two daughters. One daughter is my age and the other is two years older. My mom went back to work very soon after I was born, and my aunt, who didn't work, would take care of me and her two daughters during the day. Obviously, this made my cousins and I as close as can be. They were truly like my sisters and we were inseparable. My brother was born shortly before my 5th birthday and it was time for them to move to a bigger home, so we all moved out of that two-flat. We moved about 5 miles apart from each other so we still saw each other all the time. During the summers when I was in grade school and my mom was working, our grandmother would come over to babysit my brother and I and my cousins would come along to play. We always had such an awesome time together, starting our own band and making up dances to every single song on the Spice Girls CDs. So many great memories. Flash forward to the present, we are all still close but only see each other a few times a year due to our busy lives.
Today, I found out that the older sister may have some very scary medical issues. She has been dealing with some minor issues for the past few years, but with the latest flare-up, and how rapidly its become a problem, they are thinking it might be cancer. Latest news I have heard is that they have pushed up a surgery that was supposed to take place in late November up to next Tuesday so they can figure out what's going on.
I am so worried for my cousin. She is so important to me, as she has always been like my sister (and is our Panhellenic sister--she is an AST )
Obviously all I can do right now is pray hard and have faith for the best outcome. I would sincerely appreciate any prayers or good thoughts for her, the surgery and for a positive outcome.

You know what sucks? Being on birth control for 12 years in an effort to be responsible, only to find out at 30 your body doesnt operate as it's supposed to. Oh yeah, and my insurance doesnt cover infertility treatments. I havent yet been diagnosed as infertile, but I'm not ovulating, and it's been 8 months since I went off BC. I'm researching some natual methods to try to get my body to cooperate.....soy isofavones and progesterone cream is one idea...if I cant get those to work, then I'm going to have to look into other medical options, like Clomid
If I hear about one more teenage oops on FB....

You're where I was about 15 years ago. Best of luck to you and hang in there - I know it's tough when everyone around you seems to be preggers and you're not.

Thank you! I have an appt with the endocrinologist next week. I have PCOS, and my insulin is high. I'm at risk for diabetes, though I havent yet been diagnosed with it. I guess I'll know more about that soon. As I read and research more, it appears that with PCOS, if I can get my insulin under control, then it's probable that everything else should resume functioning as it should.

We just found out that she does indeed have ovarian cancer. They removed a tumor the size of a football, along with her ovary and a fallopian tube. I didn't get very many details but the good news is that her lymphnodes are clear and that they believe this is an early stage. She will recover from surgery over the next few weeks and begin chemo.
I'd greatly appreciate any prayers/kind thoughts for our family. Thank you.

So a bit of an update...
The details I have been receiving thus far have been very piece by piece. We now know 100% that the tumor removed from her ovary was malignant. However, all other tests came back clear and they are sure that the cancer has not spread. A board of doctors reviewed her case and because it was only this tumor, chemo is not needed at this time! Of course she will be extremely closely monitored as time goes on, but we are so thrilled to hear this news!
Thank you all who offered kind thoughts and prayers.
