Greeks in your workplace

We're looking to hire a new assistant so we have lots of applications with college activities on them. My boss was over here looking through resumes and proclaimed, "I don't like Gamma Phi Betas!!!" He's obviously not holding it against her because we're interviewing her, but I thought his proclamation was kinda funny.

Interesting. That's one of the reasons I recommend not listing a sorority by name on a resume. I used to do a lot of resume counseling, and you just never know when someone's ex sister-in-law might be an XYZ, and the hiring official just hates them right now. I recommend listing the leadership positions, but simply saying "... for my sorority chapter of xx members." Ditto for fraternities, and things like Young Democrats or Young Republicans. No need to have a hiring official toss the resume before you get a chance to meet face-to-face.

And to be on topic, one of my nurses during my last two hospital stays is an Alpha Chi Omega.

The head honcho at my company is a Phi Delt.

My immediate supervisor is an AOPi.

A coworker is a Kappa; a former colleague, still a good friend, is a Pi Phi.

Our IT guy/webmaster is a Sinfonian.

I carry my SAI/PSP letter bag to school every single day and have never gotten a hit. Not even a "oh, I'm in a sorority, too". I still, will wear shirts/polos on dress down days and the kids notice the sorority before anyone else.

I'm fairly certain a teacher I work with is a Delta. I had to give a test in her room last semester and there as a DST horn in the room.

I have no doubts that what you mentioned actually happens. Luckily my boss is smart and looked passed her Greek affiliation and paid attention to her relevant work history. We will be interviewing her this week. It's a shame that not all employers can do the same.
