Maybe it's just semantics, but I see bullying as a pattern of getting picked on. I don't think one or two incidents = bullying. Also, my parents were military, so I've been in military settings for my entire life. Kids acted out from time to time, but fear of getting caught by your parents or someone in their unit(s) stopped them from going too far. That, along with my attitude and build, is why I think I wasn't bullied.

And yeah, ass kicking isn't always the answer, but sometimes it is an answer.

And that's a fine interpretation, I'm sure people who study bullying have technical definitions and all, but that's kind of how I think about it too.

And yeah I'd suspect the military setting, for some people at least, results in less harassment for kids. I can see other individuals not fitting in/having the support of parents/etc.

And sure, violence is 'an answer' but when someone sees it as their first and necessary option - "I'm not going to let them punk me." - versus "it was the last straw and I had to do something" or even if it was a singular situation.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say it's the same attitude as my clients have. Hell we had a discussion about pride bringing you down today in group. (And they started it, I'm so proud of them.)
