I know. For all Danielle's supposed faults, her kids appear to have their heads on straight. As for Ashley, she's a little bitch but in fairness, what, exactly, is she doing with her life? She's not working or going to college, that I know of. Maybe if she had something to occupy her time and mind besides her boyfriend, she'd straighten up.

They mentioned her working many times. It was even mentioned that she couldn't go to Italy because she was working and I believe she's going to pay for her own court costs. (I'm sure with some help but how many children of wealthy families ever work and pay their own way?)

The "my family" thing must just be an Italian thing because I know if someone was messing with my family (at least my fam in NY) it'd be the same way and we did have a Patriach who would take care of things. Last I checked my family wasn't mafioso.... that I know of.

I'm so sorry if I sounded rude by making a generalization. As an African American, I understand the importance of family as well and we, too, (personally speaking) also have a Patriarch of our family. But with that understanding, we don't have to mouth the words "my family" in every single sentence the way Caroline does.

And it's not just the whole "my family this and that" thing, it's more about her melodramatic way of explaining things. "When I heard my husband's diagnosis, ... I just burst into tears," or "When I heard my son say that, ... my heart just broke ..." or "When I looked over at my parents, my heart just exploded ..." I just feel like she overexaggerates her expressions, and it's annoying. I'm like, "Okay! We GET it, Caroline! Sheeeeesh!!"

We neither have a matriarch nor a patriarch of my family.

I love my parents but my parents are my parents; and there's no "leader" in the sense of matriarch or patriarch. If there was, that would drive me absolutely crazy and I would eventually have to tell that person to shut up and find a hobby.

The same goes for the "my family" thing. It is cultural and all things are wonderful in moderation. But, after a while, it can become overbearing. Caroline's meeting with Danielle was an example of a silly attempt at being the matriarch and defender of a family as though your meeting and opinion on the matter is THE CONCLUSION. I blame the show's producers and bad acting, but...Womp Womp. Snore.

My grandmother was the matriarch of my family and kept our family close knit but after she passed years ago, all hell broke loose (think Momma Joe, Soul Food, before they got it together) and we have never been the same.

I can relate to that. It's very sad when that happens because the family will probably NEVER be the same. Even if you found a bunch of money, it'll never have an ending like Soul Food. Everyone would end up fighting over the money! (ps that movie used to be on ALL the time and i haven't seen it in forever)
