Wow. First off, not everybody has the option to join the military, even if it is something they want to do or would be fit for.
Some people send out literally hundreds of resumes per week yet get no offers.
It's not people not being willing to do a job they are "over-qualified" for, it's them not getting those jobs in the first place. That was mentioned many times.
And nobody ever said that they have turned down jobs they don't like or aren't passionate about. It was some of us complaining about people searching for really responsible jobs that they don't care about because there is a perceived availability for them. That kind of attitude is why there are so many shitty social workers out there. They don't really care, they are just doing it for a pay check. They would do only the bare minimum or sometimes even then. Same with teaching. Those jobs should only have somebody who truely cares about it.

Ummm do you even know what 'minions' mean? Just wondering. Ok so I retract my statement, i'm the only one who called you a name.
So because I refuse to join the military, I'm this lazy bum right? Because GOD FORBID we should actually have people in the military who actually want to serve our country and are proud of it.
Clearly you don't read when people say that they can't even get a "lower" job. I couldn't even get a job at my old retail job because I was 'over qualified.' Yeah I could omit my bachelors degree, but why lie? I was 'over qualified' at Subway also.
I didn't chose to ignore being unemployed, but I also can't control whether I got an interview or not. Just because there are "available" jobs doesn't mean that any Tom, Dick or Harry that really wants to get it, can get it.

Why so then you could make fun of them like you do the people from "Taco Hell," "Scrubway" and claim they don't have ambition in life?

Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean you have to call them names. Do you have a job? If so, why don't you find jobs for other people on this board? I don't even understand why people were freaking out on Kevin asking him to hire people (that he most likely never met-nor has any idea what kind of work ethic they have) just because he is gainfully employed.
Good for Kevin for being employed. Good for anyone who has a career or is in school working towards a career. Shame on anyone who is trying to put those people down and call them names because they disagree with what they have said.

Great comeback. That just proves my point. When you realize that I'm right about the fact you try to find things to tear me down about, but then realize you can't because I don't really care what you think about my employment situation, you go straight to name calling. Are you employed? What is it that you do? Maybe instead of "name-calling" if you are employed, you could do like me and attempt to give solutions instead of trying to start problems.
For the poster who brought "race" into this debate, I'm sorry, but I don't recall Kevin saying anything about race in this thread. Someone else brought up that he didn't agree with the whole outcome of the Jena 6 (or something along those lines). Guess what, I didn't either-but not because of the color of their skin. Does that mean I don't care about minorities? Does that mean I believe those who are unemployed are unemployed because they are lazy blacks?
Please leave this discussion to what it is really about : employment and NOT race. As far as people not joining the military, I said if you are "able-bodied" not for people who clearly can't do it. I get that not everyone can do it. I'm not saying that you should do it, epchick, but you (as far as I know) are not trying to find ways to feed your children. Yes, there are people in the teaching field, nursing field, social worker field, etc. who are there for the paycheck, not because they care. It is a harsh reality, but guess what-that is in EVERY field. Some people start doing those jobs as a paycheck, only to find that it is their passion and something they are really good at.

Except for the people who can't get the job for a number of reasons.
Besides, if you've never done a monthly budget before, here goes:
Burger King check: W
Monthly bills: X
Unforeseen monthly costs: Y
Money left for checking and/or savings and/or line of credit and/or wealth building program: Z
Good luck.

And you probably think that's a coincidence.
This discussion is about ALL of the CORRELATES of unemployment. I am shocked and appalled that you self-proclaimed intelligent and well-educated adults think that you can isolate employment status from the complexities of the social world.

Please tell me that by talking about the "complexities of the social world" you are not making this into a "race" thing, either. I would hate to see this thread go in that direction.

Well, for starters, its probably because you've already shown a lack of ability to process simple logic.
Its not what people say, its what they mean.

Its not about employment, its about people being vilified about a situation they have little to no control over because "better" people see them as being self-entitled.
See and I didnt call anyone names.

Interesting that you can foolishly direct people to the military like a cheesy 1980s commercial aimed at high school students, but people can't talk about the correlates of unemployment.
I don't think race was embedded in what Kevin was saying, but there are segments of society that have been hit harder by the recession. That is as much of a coincidence as my directing you to my siggy.

Yes, I show a lack of ability to process simple logic because I don't buy YOU making this a racial discussion. You don't have to call names, you are essentially saying that I am not intelligent because I don't agree with what you say. So, if someone has a job or is able to find a job, does that mean they are "self-entitled"? I guess because Kevin has a career, that he worked hard for, he must be "self-entitled" in your eyes, right? I guess because I think that there are other options and people need to exhaust all possibilities before complaining about not being able to find employment, I'm lacking empathy and logic, right?
As far as "pushing" the military like it is a cheesy 1980s commercial, if more people would do things they didn't necessarily "like" in order to pay their bills and they didn't feel so "self-entitled" they might be willing to try something unconventional (in their mind) such as going to the military. You still didn't answer my question Dr.Phil. Are you employed? Have you had trouble finding employment? If not, then why don't you give advice to people who are unemployed?
As far as the people complaining about the state of our economy and how people who are working are "self-absorbed" assholes, maybe you could come up with ways to tell people what they can do to help their situation. Xp2k bringing "race" into the discussion doesn't exactly "help" the situation, either. Maybe instead of posting snarky comments, certain people could discuss what they think would HELP people.
Dreamseeker, I find it "interesting" that the only thing you have contributed to this thread is to make a snarky comment toward someone else saying I lack logic because I don't agree with them bringing "race" into a discussion, that doesn't need it. Maybe instead of being snarky, you could add something of substance. Just a thought.

Ok, let me break this down for you again.
The. Military. Is. Not. For. Everyone.
It's not about whether you 'like' it or not. It's great that you were able to do it, more power to you. But just stop. You are not going to garner any support with that argument. Period.
