We don't have to wear a pin during Sigma or Phi, but we very often have our binders for interviews and signatures.
This discussion has been had many times at GC, like here: Pledge Pin Requirements.

Short version: one of the differences between most fraternities and NPC sororities. (Although I, too, remember when pledges to NPC sororities wore their pledge pins all the time.)
