So I've been reading on here that we can't re-rush for a full year bc of NPC. But if we want to re-rush in the Spring of 2011, will we be at a disadvantage? We are both currently IN chapters (because we signed pref cards) but have only been for a short time. We're not initiated or anything, just VERY new members.
I guess I'm looking for a school specific answer? If that is at ALL possible. I feel like I will have it worse off at UVA to re-rush, but will it be hard for my Tech friend also? Will our sororities tell other sororities not to let us in? (Even though if I drop out for personal reasons, not me being like "well I hate XYZ." And likewise for my friend...)
Trust me I am giving this a try but I don't think it's fair to "XYZ" to stay in it for 4 years when I know I can't put my whole heart into it.
PLEASE if anyone knows about UVA/ Va-Tech re-rushing......PLEASE.
Of course you're going to be at a huge disadvantage next year. These are two competitive schools geared towards freshman PNMs and you and your friend just had the best shots you're going to have at your "higher choice" chapters. Unless something changes dramatically (and by that I mean you become BFFs with every girl in each of those chapters, have a 4.0 GPA, discover the cure to cancer and have an extreme makeover that leaves you looking like Megan Fox) you're going to be in an even weaker position next year. You'll be the sophomore who pledged and dropped versus all of those shiny new freshmen. It wouldn't be unusual to end up entirely bidless or with only "even lower choice" chapters than you already belong to. Your current situations are most likely the only opportunity you'll have to be Greek at your schools. I know you don't want to hear that but it's the truth. Stop wishing and whining and start trying to make the most of being in the chapter that wanted you.

This instant gratification generation continues to irk me.

Honestly, you've been in for what, a week? This isn't "Next" where you get off the bus, look at the guy and say "next." Think about if someone did that to YOU - that's basically what you want to do to these sororities. In other words, think about someone other than yourself.

Yeah, and the school specific answer: no one at UVA will touch you if you did that with a ten-foot-pole. Same goes for your friend at Tech.

And if you were thinking of transfering, this will hurt your chances if you stay in state. (MOst likely, anyway. It def. will at RU, JMU, GMU, and I'd imagine W&L. You would have go out of state somewhere to pledge again, in the most likely sequence of occurances.)

There is no way I think she should transfer from UVA to RU, JMU, GMU, etc, however those schools rushes are completely different from UVA and Tech. It is exceedingly easier to get a bid from those schools, even as an upperclassman.

Girl-
If you stay at UVA, and rush again, you probably will get the same or worse result. I'm just being honest. Give pledging a chance and if you don't start to like it, drop before initiation. I really don't encourage rushing again, because you might end up with no sorority, or one you liked even less. Could you pursue informal recruitment? That might be ok. This is the same advice for Tech.

They wouldn't be able to until their first semester of junior year, since they are bound for a year and informal is held in the fall.

As someone who has worked in UVA Greek Life, my advice is still to stick with it and see how it goes. Going through recruitment a second time isn't always successful at UVA. Also, avoid the "new" sorority on Grounds. It's not affiliated with the university and it's not a CIO.

And yet, they knew right where to run to ask questions and hopefully get advice about their terrible predicaments.

OP, the chapters you got bids to saw something in you that they wanted. They took a chance on you. Your turn.

THIS. I almost feel bad for the chapters that took a chance on them. No, let me re-cant my statement and say that I def. feel bad for those chapters! Didn't we determine that these girls have only been members for a week and a half or less?

Wow. I don't even know what to say about that. I'm a little disgusted.
