*Most* accurate movie in regards to Fraternities and Sororities

I'm looking for nominations for the most accurate movie in regards to how social Fraternities and Sororities actually are that has been released to theatres (so Hallmark movies don't count)

It seems like the comparison among movies with Fraternities and Sororities in them is always "Which one is more *inaccurate*?"

Now I realize that the winner may not be all that accurate, but hopefully it won't be one in which undergraduates get to vote on adding physical requirements to all fraternities (RotN II) or one in which fraternities destroy parades (Animal House).

(and for all of the issues with the TV show "Greek", at least they get a *few* things right).

It wasn't in theaters, but I honestly thought Friends Till The End did the best job, other than the part where they voted on pledges. The sisters were all different physical types and had interests outside the sorority.

I honestly can't think of anything in theaters that was accurate. I actually mulled on this for a while lol. I haven't seen any made for TV movies except for some goofy "Haunting on Sorority Row" movie (actually scared the crap out of me haha). It seems like movies are usually trying to ridicule greek life. I try to watch all the fraternity/sorority movies I can just to see how they depict greek life and usually end up laughing my way through them, or even getting offended. "Greek" may actually be the most accurate popular/well-known thing I can think of, and even though we all know that show can get kind of ridiculous, you are right about them getting a few things right.

It's funny, but from my understanding, Animal House was more or less true at the time it's writer went to college. Granted there were some license taken, but a lot of it was true.

School Daze was satire, but accurate in many ways.

That was definitely a surreal moment in the movie for me. I was like..... would somebody REALLY do this, especially after already reaching the pinnacle of Gamma Ray-ness?

That could be a thread in and of itself.

I will say that people excuse a lot of otherwise ridiculously stupid behaviors when they claim to be appealing to a higher authority. Her higher authority was the need to belong.

I was an active in the 1970's and I was just talking last week to a Phi Sigma Sigma who was a Little Sister of our house and she told me this story. When she saw Animal House, she was with her family. They enjoyed the movie but didn't really get it. But she was laughing hysterically and pointing out to her family which character in the movie corresponded to people that she knew.

Like all good comedy, Animal House exaggerates to tell its story, but if you dial it down a notch or two, everything looks familiar to me too.

This link has been posted on GC in the past, but I think it is worth posting again: http://www.acmewebpages.com/animal/ah1.html. This is the story which grew into the movie: The Night of the Seven Fires. The main writer of the movie Chris Miller, was an ADPhi at Dartmouth and wrote the story in the link for the National Lampoon, showing what pledging was like at his chapter.

There has been a 30th anniversary special on the making of Animal House shown on cable stations recently, with film from the ADPhi house which makes you believe that the story could be true.

I took a whole course on Spike Lee films last semester and one of the things we discussed re: School Daze was that she was actually not to have slept with just Half Pint, but that a train was supposed to be run on her instead. It was taken out of the screen play and substituted with the Gammas clocking Half-Pint in the hallway.

I'm glad that was taken out. It would've been too much for a theater film.

That sexual component isn't unrealistic because there are idiots who do such things.

I can't think of any movies, just TV movies. There was one called Sorority Wars on Lifetime. I thought it was "decently" accurate with the account that alums do help out. It also talked about being a legacy and what chapters would do to "get" and "keep" a legacy. Obviously, it was a movie so there were inaccuracies, but overall they did a decent (emphasis on decent) job. The movie, impo, didn't portray sorority life it too bad a picture.

This was my thought when I read the title.

Nice sig, by the way.
