Throwing a shoe, for me, is not assault. It seems more like he was trying to put the lowest cultural shame on him that he could. I totally got it and died laughing. He didn't get hit and even if he did, he would have at worst just had a knot in the head.
Maybe if he had been used to having shoes flung at him in his youth (particularly toward his backside, as many people I know have experienced) he would have been a better president? Juss sayin'...

Think if was a woman who wears 3" heels, like a boomerang...
No, dude should have not thrown shoes at the US president, regardless how we think about the current POTUS.
My question has not been answered, first of all, why was he in Iraq to have shoes thrown at him--making shoes be a terrorist action... Especially fools with size 10 feet or above... They are liable to throwing shoes at our Presidents... Like a suicide shoe thrower-bomber... LOL...
Then secondly, some else ask, WHERE THE [expletive deleted] was the POTUS detail--EFF that I pay taxes for this President to be protected. I do not want to celebrate any holiday in remembrance of this person. Really. And I am sorry, I am not interested in reading President Bush's pop-up book with kiddie mazes, word finds, and connect the dots. No really...
I don't care, the POTUS detail should have check for people shoes being off in order to be thrown. This ain't the Springer show, dammit!!! Isn't that what the SS does when shoes are thrown at people? If that is a well known concept in the Islamic culture, then what's up with the POTUS detail? REALLY!!!

Always fun talking politics with you DS. You say your peace and then get fired up and mock anyone who dares disagree with you.
It's a shame, because you're one of the smarter posters on here, and you make some great points in a lot of threads.

I don't give a [BLEEPIN' BLEEP]!!! [BLEEP] them!!! [BLEEP], [BLEEP], [BLEEP] Mother [BLEEP] them!!!
I'm gonna tell you like my crazy uncle told the IRS:
I am 70-something years old. Ill... Unemployed, broke and have inoperable cancer... If the government wants to show up and put me in prison, and have the taxpayers pay for $80,000 for cancer treatment to take care of me, then come on, I would be more than happy to comply...
The IRS never called again...

Just because it is considered offensive, doesn't mean that the SS should have everyone take off their shoes. All those journalists were searched several times---and they all didn't know that President Bush was going to be at the conference.
The SS was there but I serioulsy doubt they would have EVER thought shoes would have been thrown at the POTUS. In fact, a couple SS men went up to protect Pres Bush & he waved them off.
Here is an article about the lack of SS:

The SS job is part of the protocol, customs and culture of the area as directed by the President. They advise him of the appropriateness of SOME duties he upholds.
Sure, they may have not know that anyone would hurl shoes at the US president. But they should have know that doing so is of great insult as seen in Arab-culture. That is why some credentials are checked.
Now, we are not talking about a country with decades old fully functional, established constitution with branches of government... We are talking about a very unstable questionable government that is supported by the United States at this time. If we are supporting it, then, the Detail and anyone else deemed essential would want to be looking at EVERYBODY'S credentials and possible "plant" who they wanted there and refused letting anyone else in there just for the photo op. Yeah, I said it. Our US government does that...
That is the job of the SECRET Service and any other intelligence agency of the USA. I know folks who do work for these agencies and let's just say, some stuff is well within their control...
This incident, should have been. To play stupid means someone failed somewhere. That fool needs to lose their job because of this... Or they aren't in charge of checking plants in meetings with the POTUS, etc...
Cuz if he let that looney tune into this meeting hurling shoes at our Leader, who else is he letting in?
That's like me asking for $50 dollars worth of circus tickets... LOL...
