				Giving/Receiving letters

My FI lavaliered me a few months before he formally proposed. For Christmas, I had considered hand-stitching him a new letter jersey as his is quite old. Would it be appropriate and well-received for myself (a GDI as of right now) to sew him letters? I just don't want to tread into murky water.

You want to give your man a jersey with his letters on it, right? Sounds fine to me!

I would be more concerned that he gave you his letters and you're not in a sorority. I've always held that GDI's don't understand the importance of letters and thus, shouldn't be lavaliered.

				Re: Meaning of letters

			Elephant Walk,

I was raised in a Greek household. From the time I was very young it was ingrained how sacred those letters were to those that earned them. Some of my fondest memories are going with my father to his chapter house homecoming weekends.

Before my FI lavaliered me, I wouldn't so much as touch anything with his letters. I wouldn't wash his jerseys or any of his crested or lettered shirts. I am a Girl Scout, and I am a rower. I know what it means to receive the insignia of an organization that you are so deeply committed to.

He wouldn't have lav'd me if he didn't think that I would uphold his letters to the highest standard. I hold myself to the same standards that his brothers do when wearing his letters and I refuse to wear them if there is any chance that my actions in public would not represent his fraternity in a positive light.

That's just pathetic on so many levels. Why are you washing his clothes? Why would Girl Scout and rowing gear be equivalent to letters? Why would you not touch anything with letters? You've got major issues!

OK, this is the second time I've seen you go off on OhThatGirl88, for saying something relatively innocuous, if a little naive. At any rate, your response seems to be way out of proportion to the original post. Do you guys know each other in real life or something??

PlainJane strikes me as quite the creeper.

ETA: She joined... today. And 3 of her 4 posts have been rude or insulting. It's one thing to be assertive. It's a whole 'nother ball of yarn to be an a-hole.

Thank you ladies. I come from an area where y'all, us/we are used to refer to a community as a whole. My neighbors are "all my girls"/"all my ladies" It's a FOS that is used quite commonly where I'm originally from. I didn't mean to misstep there, and in no way meant to misrepresent myself (re: other thread)

And no, we don't know each other IRL. Nothing more than being e-thugged on. I'm ove it.

And now back to your regularly scheduled broadcast

FWIW, I wash my BF's clothes for him quite often. He returns the favor by washing mine whenever I'm too tired to do laundry.

LOL @ e-thugged.

For the record, I don't mess with my husband's letters, and he doesn't mess with mine. It's not like we're going to throw down about it - it's just a mutual respect thing.
