Not all the bacteria dies when you cook the food. Boil it, freeze it, nuke it, or whatever, it doesn't matter. Uhmm there's "these things" called "Baterial spores" that will still be there, and in this case the ones found in saliva.

Cheerfulgreek, do you know that kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray? Yeah, I hear it's just like that. Just like how eating cow tongue is like eating...saliva. And ewwwwwwwwwww SALIVA!

It probably is, but I wouldn't know because I've never kissed a smoker. I wouldn't go out with a guy who smoked anyway.

Has anyone tried raw oysters before? I love oysters, but not raw. I once tried them that way but the slime made me gag. I couldn't swallow it. It was SO gross. I've seen people eat them raw, and it looked good, at least until I tried it myself. Yuck.

I tried them before; it had the nastiest fishy aftertaste! YUCK!!!
I tried frog legs for the first time today! It tasted like a mixture of fish and chicken with the texture of a chicken. Interesting...

Yep. The 1st one I tried, I bit into it and then spit it back into a napkin (I know, gross) then I was told that they're better to just swallow them whole. I tried that and that's when I gagged. I can't see how people find them to be so good, raw. I love them cooked though.
I don't like frog legs. Just the look of them grossed me out.

Raw oysters are great - they were actually the only seafood I would eat when I was a little kid.

And that's exactly what it looks like when people eat them. Like they're taking shots. I wish I liked them, because it looks so good when I see other people eat them. Maybe if I put something on them, that may make a difference.

Yup love em. Marylanders are big on the oyster LOL! I still remember my dad conning me into eating a raw one in Lexington Market in Baltimore when I was 10. LOVE EM. There's a restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, DE called Fins that has THE best raw bar I've ever been to. DH and I randomly found it on our honeymoon while looking for Dogfish Head..........yum I will never forget that. And they HAVE to be served with mingionette........none of that half assed cocktail sauce LOL!
Other weird things I like.....
1) Tripe-both in pho and a tripe soup DH makes with ham shank, split peas, beef broth, lentils and onions...............YUMMY YUMMY
2) beef tendon-in pho-its a bit of a textural thing. Kind of like eating a harder version of beef flavored jello
3) ostrich- we bought some ground ostrich at our local co op once. Made a VERY tasty meatloaf with it
4) Foie Gras-LOVE-even thought I have somewhat of a moral objection to it
5) raw beef-I've never had carpaccio, but for some reason, I have always REALLY liked raw hamburger meat. Everyone I know thinks Im disgusting LOL
6) Frogs legs-tasted like a crab and a chicken had a baby
7) Escargots-YUMMY
8) Someone before mentioned ceviche? I LOOOOOVE ceviche. We have a Spanish/Mexican restaurant here in town that has a kick ass ceviche. Love it
9) And weirdly enough, I really prefer eating my fish raw a la sushi style. Fish just looses something for me when its cooked, unless its fish and chips LOL!

As to the raw beef - I think it was my mom who told me that, when she was younger, her Italian grandmother would give the kids pieces of raw beef, I think dipped in vinegar. I don't know if this was an Italian thing, or just something done in the 50's/60's...
As to the eating fish raw - I understand to a point what you're saying. If I'm somewhere where I know the seafood is fresh (like Martha's Vineyard), I tend to like my fish with very little or no seasoning.
I had forgotten about ceviche - I've had it a couple of times before, and it was pretty good, although it wasn't something I'd go out of my way to order.
