Most of my relatives are fine with only tree and fence damage but...my sister managed to get across Houston to my uncle's house and he was having a heart attack. She got him to a hospital, which was under lockdown, and the doctor has told her not to bother with lifesaving measures...that they would only be cruel. I don't understand that. Anyway, he has only hours to live. I am thankful that she got to him and he didn't have to suffer alone.

Wow. That's really weird. Was he in good health otherwise?

I'm glad she's there for him too.

I guess he was in as good a shape as someone in their eighties could be. His mind was still sharp and he was still speaking at Dale Carnegie meetings.

So now I'm debating whether to go to my daughter's bridal shower in Alabama--she's getting married this Saturday--and just turn off my cell phone so nobody can call with bad news while I'm plastering a smile on my face. What a year this has been.

Oh, carnation, I am so sorry to hear about your uncle. I think you have the right idea - go and be there for your daughter. I hope your uncle has an easy passing, and that your family will be comforted in your grief.
