Yes, this is my understanding. Remember, we're talking 1930. My dad said they were ridiculed as really ugly women. It's also my understanding that there was also a wedding. The tallest "woman" wed the shortest "woman".

I walked around campus @ Syracuse with duck in hand. (1975) Pretty silly now when you think of it.
