If I have a daughter I want her to be named Melissa or Jessica. First one to tell me what those names have in common gets a cookie.

Beat me to it! I once saw a cartoon of a very distraught looking teacher in a class picture, and the students' names Scot, Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer, Scott, Scott, Jennifer, Scott, Jennifer...
My personal "names to hate" from experience (and my apologies to those who have these names) are Jeffery and Christopher. I actually broke off a very serious relationship with a man who was insistent that his son would be named Jeffery.

When I was in fourth grade...in Ft. Walton Beach FL  *a very very long time ago*
There were FOUR Pam's in the class AND the teacher's name was Pam.

Pam T
and Miss Vaughn.

Yes, I often said that the list for names NOT to name my kids was longer than the list TO name my kids.
names I did not consider:
Theo
Miranda
Joshua
Jennifer
Brandon
I know there were others, but these jump to mind very, very quickly. Too quickly.

I was born and raised in Destin...the parents still live there (and are natives). It's quite possible that you were in school with some of my aunts and uncles.

The woman who sits in the cubicle next to mine just put in a phone order for flowers to be delivered to a family member (maybe her sister-in-law?) who just had a baby today. The message she wanted to send with the flowers included the baby's name, and when she said it, I was happy to hear it was a normal name. And then she spelled it:
Jerimy.
Why is that necessary? Even Google asked me, "Did you mean: Jeremy?"
