It was so cute seeing some of the foreign athletes wanting to have their picture taken with Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade.
The opening ceremonies were . The following host cities might as well throw in the towel. No one can touch China now! I have no words...it was just the most spectacular thing I have ever seen.
Some of those foreign men... HOT!

Awwww the story of that little Chinese boy touched my heart!!!
He was a survivor of the earthquake, where 20 of his 30 classmates passed away. Once he was able to free himself from the rubble, he went back to try and save some of students. When asked why, he said because it was his job---he was the class leader, the hall monitor (of sorts). *TEAR*

I'd say so. What struck me was the marriage of super high tech with the remarkable coordination of thousands of human beings (arguably low or non-tech) to create an amazing "cinimatic" presentation.
I really hate the overuse of the word awesome, but this really was.

The broadcast froze up for a little while during the uneven bar routines but I thought that was because we had some major thunderstorms in the area.

Well, if the unthinkable happens and she gets DQ'd, then she would be medal-less (I'm convinced the more that the CBC harps on and on about this, the more that they jinx our athletes. SIGH)

Hugs to Alicia (once again) and Anna Pavlova from Russia. Alicia missed the bronze medal by a tenth of a point. Anna got a no score on her second vault, because the judges didn't give her the signal to start. Anna thought that he or she did. That lost momentum carried her over to the floor exercise where she fell on her last pass.
Congrats to Oksana Chusovitina.

Gymnastics once had ties also, so I don't understand the need for tiebreakers now.

The judges in gymnastics are biased and the scoring is wrong, IMHO. At first, I didn't understand why the US coaches didn't file for a protest for Alicia yesterday. But when Tim explained it tonight about filing a protest, it makes much sense. But, the results were not right.
I 100% agree with Bela. Many people would say that "that is that", but sorry, the judges were showing favoritism towards the Chinese.

I def. agree and it's kind of sad but it's making me loose respect for the judging committee. I understand that to prevent bias you don't have judges from the same countries at the gymnasts but when the judges that are left are people from countries that have never won an olympic medal in gymnastics it's ridiculous. Nastia didn't have mistakes that were as noticeable as He which is what IMHO should've been the "tie-breaker" since they aren't allowed to double medal..

I don't understand why the tie-breaker is to drop another set of scores. I understand the reason for dropping the highest and lowest scores is to get closer to the median score. However, wouldn't it make more sense to break the tie by adding back in the highest and lowest scores, so that the tie-breaker score is based on all six judges instead just three judges.

It's a bunch of hooey. They deduct the next lowest score...WTF? So, the 14-year old had an 8.9 and Nastia had a 9.0. Nastia was basically punished for having a higher mark. How does that make any kind of sense?

The judges have been showing favortism for the Chinese in many events. This year's Olympics have been a joke.
