About 20 years ago, I lost a job, with many of my peers as a result of a management take-over. I had secured a new, comparable position within 2 weeks, 400 miles away.
Emotionally, it was very tough. But people I knew really rallied to give me leads.
As I look back, it was a good thing that it happened, when it happened. I was at my new job for only 5 months when I decided to move back into my home (I had negotiated 6 months of housing) and go to grad school. Grad School prompted me to leave the industry I was in, and move forward.
Truth be told, I didn't really like the job where we were all replaced anyways.
