The conditions were made because what is okay between you and your friends is one thing. Those who were defending the use of the term are sincere, I believe, in thinking that because it's okay amongst their buddies it's always okay. The point I made in Fraternity Rush is that you can't assume others you don't know won't be offended. Since we were talking about recruitment, we were talking about groups that contain lots of people you don't yet know.
I have friends IRL who would be offended - but as far as having my finger to GC's pulse, naw. Just because I feel a certain way I know far too well I can't assume everyone here will agree with me. ALTHOUGH MAYBE THEY SHOULD! I think that many people would actually be more likely to post here with their true feelings, as there is a certain degree of anonymity.
It would be interesting to hear from more actives - perhaps there is an age gap in being offended. Actives, is it common and accepted to use the term on your campus?
