Stupid.

I'll spell it out for you...

She was a certain race which one does not usually associate oneself with in social occasions.

Jesus christ.

Oh, I'm sorry.

That didn't even come to my mind. Probably because I'm not a racist asshole.

That's a different M*A*S*H* episode - where the guy wants to make sure he gets the "right color" blood.

Funny?

No, not really. It's unfortunate it happens.

But this is the South...where tradition matters (as I have said over and over again). Where the appropriate rush/pledging tactics can set you up or pull your chapter eventually. They were idiots about this and it turned out poorly for them.

ok, I'm asking this, SERIOUSLY.

If Beyonce Knowles came through rush at your school, and an NPC sorority pledged her, would they be shunned socially?

I'm asking this, seriously,

Who is Beyonce Knowles?

I don't watch many movies, most of it's Hollywood trash.

I agree. It is just too bad that too many guys like EW are following instead of leading.
What the hell are you talking about?

To my knowledge, there aren't any girls of race in the Greek system. They made this decision long before I went to the University of Arkansas, the sorority fell apart then, and hasn't been good since I've been on campus. They also haven't pledge any minorities since...I assume. I don't hang out with that sorority because it's rare to see one on campus, much less at a party.

So much for race being a card that doesn't matter as long as people are of a certain background and uphold certain values and standards.
So much for arguing intelligently instead of cheap shots...

I'm not in a sorority, obviously. I wasn't at the University at the time. She was not of a good background, which was part of the reason the sorority argued over her for so long.

If you had a brain in your head, you would have said "she came from a really trashy background" and left it at that - without bringing race into the picture.

First, I'm assuming by "girls of race" you're referring to minority women. Race =/= Black or whatever it is you think it means.

Second, maybe if people like you said "hey, this isn't tradition, this is wrong and I'm going to support sororities that pledge diverse women as a positive thing" then maybe more minority women would feel comfortable enough to join your greek system and sororities wouldn't be scared to pledge them.

Support?

Do you want me to give them money?

The University of Arkansas is 4% African-American.

I believe the other races have nearly the same or less representation.

And if more minority women don't, it will be because they don't want to and not because they "can't."

I know organizations' reputations matter but it really sucks that fraternity men's opinions matter this much (not just with this specific incident but in general). There are so many people in the campus and local communities whose opinions should matter more, even if the mixers and stuff could be impacted.

I know this wasn't directly toward me, but I will answer. Hell no!

This includes any "Traditional", "Top Tier", "Old Row", "Good Ole Boy", "SEC", "Southern", "Conservative", "My Daddy has more money than your Daddy" chapter. Cause any good fraternity man knows you have to find favor with the sorority sisters if you want to get to the girl.

Mr. Walk: For your education, this ^^^ is Miss Knowles.

Yeah because she's not too black to offend the mainstream but black enough so they can say "we aren't bigots...we love that sorority with that black member."

Here again, this is true.

However, I bet dollars to donuts that any chapter that pledges a women with such stunning looks would be hard pressed to be shunned by the fraternities. Regardless of her pigment.

Wow. What years was she active? Pretty progressive for an Arkansas chapter.
