i gave my husband a very nice (and quite expensive) monogrammed pen last year that came with it's own monogrammed case. He travels a lot on business so I thought that would be good and he liked it.
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, you could get him one of those digital photo frames and put pictures of you two and his family or whatever in it. I'm doing that for my husband for either our anniversary (which is May 13th) or for valentine's day. I havent decided yet.
My husband as well as my father and father in law are always hard to shop for because they have everything. What they dont have, they have the financial means to just go out and buy it and usually that's what they do. To top it off all three can be picky!!! If your guy is hard to shop for in general I feel you!!

A pen is a really good idea. My step dad is obsessed with fountain pens (and the like) so maybe I'll ask him about it.
I've already gotten him 2 regular picture frames, so I don't think I'll get him a digital one, too.
And about getting him a French cuff shirt + cuff links...that's a possibility, too! Do you see why I get my advice @ GC?? Haha, thanks guys and gals!

If you do decide to go with the shirt and cuff links idea, Donald Trump has a really nice collection of both. And you can always throw in a tie for good measure. Good luck.

Do not buy a Donald Trump label shirt or cuff link set. Please.
Pens, how about a Mont Blanc? Very nice.
French Cuff shirts? Brooks Brothers, Thomas Pink, J. Press, etc.
Cuff Links? Brooks Brothers has nice ones. David Yurman makes nice cuff links for men. Burberry has some good ones as well. Generally all nice quality men's clothing stores have nice cuff links.

It takes a Viking to Raze a Village
Since you live in an area with real stores you could always cruise Nordstrom Rack for a shirt with French Cuffs since they have decent prices and a liberal return/exchange policy. If he isn't fortunate to be Norwegian like us, maybe you could get him a subtle Dale of Norway type sweater to wear when you're rocking the bunader.
You could also make or buy something off of CafePress, you know, one of those dorky shirts or mugs that says "Pray for me I am married to a Norwegian" but you could change it to dating

Oh well, I guess I should pray for you then. Swedes are just Norwegians with their brains knocked out.
Dale of Norway sweaters can be "snazzy" as cuteASAbug likes to say, plus Santa Cruz gets foggy. There are some nice red ones.
Oh come on, this screams Theta Chi

I did find some cuff links that are for a man's bunader, I'm not positive, but I think it was for Telemark, Nordland, and some other place. I've always liked the tradition of when you marry a Norwegian you can rock part of their bunader since you're uniting your families. If you want to PM me your bunader region I will do some investigating for you.
*IF* I marry who I am currently with we were joking about getting matching Dale of Norway sweaters for the engagement photos, and then submitting them to the alumni magazine (they print pictures of people's pets in vandal gear, haha!). I can't think of anything goofier to go with "Ms. Vandal Squirrel '05, '08 and Mr. Vandal Shyster '05, '08 announce their upcoming wedding and are pictured here with their Vandalized dogs, Stella and Adrian"
I'll be on the lookout for a "Pray for me I'm dating a Swede" item for you

Ditto!!!
LucyKKG, I assume you know what your husband would like, but just make sure. I absolutely detest French cuffs and cufflinks with anything but formal wear. I would never wear them except when dressed formally, and I tend to get a negative impression when I see other men wearing them with business attire -- it gives an air of pretentiousness, in my opinion. I recognize that's not a universally shared (or rational ) bias; the point is that in my experience, guys either love them or detest them.
As for pens, I remember my wife getting me a really nice pen early on in our marriage (or maybe even when we were dating). It's probably still in a drawer somewhere, along with the pens I got as graduation presents -- I know I never used any of them. She thought it was a very nice gift (and I hope I acted like it was). I thought it was a complete waste of money. Give me a Sanford Uni-Ball Onyx that I don't care if I lose anyday. Now, she wouldn't even think of getting me a pen, because she knows now I wouldn't want it.
Now, having said all of that, I will admit that the buttons on my navy blazer have the Phi Mu Alpha coat-of-arms on them. You have to look closely to figure out that's what the design is, but I love 'em.

VERY cool! Hope he likes them! I always think French cuffs are so distinctive.

Ah! He's not my husband! Lol sorry, I read that and got a little scared. Anyway, my family is from Vaaler county in Norway so I have a Solor bunad. I'm not getting him those kind of cuff links, though. I don't know if I could ever get him into a bunad...lol oh my.
Thanks for all of your help!
