And are you sure it was NPC that cancelled your recruitment, and that you're not confusing it with your local Panhellenic Council?

I think there's a big difference actually. If the local Panhellenic did it, there's a very good chance they are not aware of the rules. This happened at one of the schools I've advised in the past. NPC was not aware of it, but as our NPC rep was on sick leave, there was no one to deal with the issue. The GA could have cared less if rules were broken. It's possible that NPC is currently unaware of this.

I know it and you know it, but a PNM would use these two terms interchangably.
ETA...I checked the website from the university where the OP attends and it calls the governing body the " __(State)___ _(College)_____ University Panhellenic Council". So, it could be the local council or the National Council.

Darn it, Soliloquy! I was so excited for you to go through informal. That just sucks.

No, it's not just symantics, that was my point. I know a PNM wouldn't maybe know the difference, which is why I asked if she was sure she wasn't confusing the two. My gut feeling is that the local college panhellenic cancelled informal, not the national body NPC.
ETA: The college panhellenic may have cancelled an organized hosting of informal recruitment for the groups elligible, but I don't think they can prohibit chapters from recruiting new members. Chapters on the OP's campus may still host recruitment events or non-events.

does anyone in the know(like benzgirl) know if there are chapters on soliloquys campus who are not at total that could hold an informal recruitment?

I'm afraid I don't know, as I am neither in her area of the country or belong to one of the chapters that are on her campus. No one reported in the Fall recruitment results either.
I'll do some snooping on their National Websites to see what I can find out.

It was NPC that contacted the college panhellenic to cancel recruitment. I heard it from our new panhellenic president (i was sooo happy she got the spot!).
It was supposed to be a 3 day long informal recruitment processs. PNM's would visit every chapter the first day, go wherever they pleased the 2nd, attend 2 prefs the 3rd and find out bids later that night.
However, I finally found out that it was cancelled due to nearly all houses being at total. Only one is lacking total by 2 members. I think it's pretty dumb that we can't have it because everyone is at total. Because honestly, all of the chapters and panhellenic look pretty silly now. There was a lot of buzz on campus, many girls got excited and now it's cancelled. Our campus culture is so laid back and most girls don't like the formality and rigidness of fall recruitment, which is why winter informal would have been a success. Oh well!
So now my last chance is formal, which is so far away, and that does not make me a happy camper. Blarg. I'm gonna be old and an upperclassman!!

Uhh...you think it's dumb that all houses are at total? What's so silly about it? A house having as many members as they're allowed to have is a great thing for them. A chapter cannot hold recruitment if they're not allowed to take new members. That's black and white.
If chapters are consistantly at total and many girls are still left bidless, then maybe your campus Panhellenic might want to explore the possibility of adding another sorority. But, as you know, that's for them to decide.
And please define success. Do you think that because COR lacks the formality and rigidness of the fall it would have been easier for you to get a bid?
I understand that you're bummed that you won't get a chance to participate in COR, but come on. You don't need to play the poor sport by making comments like you did up there.
