Yes.

And I used to love those ads too, we used to put them in for everything! Pledge classes, seniors graduating, sisters going away for internships, congratulations for awards, thank yous to other houses participating in our philanthropy, to greek week partners, etc. They were so cute!

UF did it while I was there. And they would do it again for new initiated classes. I do not think all sororities did- but many did place ads.

Some sororities at my college did it which was cool b/c I always wanted to know where people in my rush group ended up, solved that little mystery lol.

Some of my sisters and I had a good laugh when we found a scrapbook from years ago with Collegian cut-outs of all of those sorts of ads! There were literally ads for EVERYTHING... you really don't see that too much here, anymore.

I use to see non-greek groups sending 'personals' to one another that were really ads for their events.

"Hey John - Will you be at the Campus Center Movie on Thursday at 7pm in the Auditorium? I will! Love, Jenny" you get the idea..

I thought these & the greek ads were great! They showed a lot of 'spirit'!

The majority of sororities at WVU still do this.

some bgsu sororities used to run their lists right after pledging, submit little cryptic notes during big/lil week, and post a list again after initiation. for some groups it was simply a more general 'welcome to the sorority' or 'congrats' type little ad with their mascot.

on the extreme end their were a couple of group who posted their formal/informal events complete with a list of who everybody was taking as a date, congrats to their new exec board, and a congratulatory type ads listing things like pinnings/lavalierings and engagements.

to each their own i guess...

This was pretty cheesy, but back in the day, at least five of the people on the newspaper staff were greeks. They had a running "soap opera" in the Personals, starting with something like "If you're in Professor KnowItAll's 11am class, have blonde hair, and wore green yesterday, I'd like to talk to you." It went on for weeks prior to Recruitment. They'd make plans, then one of them couldn't make it, one of them transferred out of the class - all that nonsense. It was like those old Folger ads. The two finally met at a fraternity party, then went to a sorority formal, etc. It was truly one of the most read items in the paper, and there was a noticable growth in PNMs.

And yes, we always published the names of our New Member classes. Every sorority also had a name for their class, such as the QT Quota Class, or the Electric Eleven. We (as in ADPi) only published first names, though, as we considered more an invasion of privacy.

That is something I would definitely be concerned about. Some chapters nowadays post all kinds of members information on their chapter websites (full names, home towns, birthdays, email addresses, etc etc)

But I digress
