I am the ED/CEO of a nonprofit that works to help place the children that you work with who end up becoming state wards in permanent loving homes--away from the abuse.

*waves to a fellow person in the non-profit sector!*

I work in the Hawaii office of a large national incorporated non-profit. Depending on what time of the year it is, I'm either a Grants Specialist or an Event Coordinator. Wearing different hats makes the job exciting and very worthwhile. I don't think I've ever had a dull moment here.

One of the best parts of my job (besides helping others, of course) probably has to be the networking. At 28 years old, I've rubbed elbows with many of Hawaii's community/government leaders, CEOs, top executives, etc. just by being a representative of my organization. I don't have too many friends my age who can say that.

I own "The Tax Store." It's a small tax office, in a nearby town. I specialize in people who want their money quickly, but don't want to pay H&R Block prices. I work around 70 hours a week 4 months a year (Jan.-April), and then I go into my office maybe once a week the other 8 months.

The rest of the year I stay at the pool, beach or golf course.

I defend people who are accused of crimes that cannot afford a private attorney.

And I go to law school.

What a wonderful idea...I hope you have tons of success! I know your job must be horribly difficult. Unfortunately, people who want kids and can't have them want babies not abused children who need their love.

And...I am a physician trained in Radiology. I just joined a private practice in a community hospital in Prince George's County, Maryland. My patient population is underserved with advanced cases...very similar to my indigent population at my training hospital in Louisiana. It is fascinating but heart breaking work. I love my job!

I work for a nonprofit helping middle school children who are considered "at risk" or who are already engaging in risky behaviors to educate them on the risks associated with their behavior and provide them with opportunities to become involved in their community. (And I'm a grad student... )

I think that there is a thread on this topic in our forum, it is a couple of pages back.

I'm a librarian. I've worked as a special librarian (for a national nonprofit org) as well as an academic librarian (@ 2 major research universities).

I currently work in a county public law library. It's usually depressing and occasionally rewarding. When I started the job I interacted mostly with the law clerks, attorneys who regularly practice in this county, and a judge here or there.

Although we have several clinics and outreach organizations on site - somehow word got out that *gasp* someone in the library actually takes the time to help you... so most of my clients are here because they've been given the runaround and just want to talk to someone who can point them in the right direction. Also we get those who can't afford attorneys and/or the ones who feel they can represent themselves. *i don't give advice tho...*

I'm a government contractor - more specifically, I work on a project for Customs & Border Protection, and train government agencies how to integrate into our new program dealing with imports/exports.

I handle all of the advertising & marketing for a high end real estate firm in Memphis. It fits right in with what I've said I wanted to do... but who knows for how long! Good experience though and I generally like everyone I work with though, so that's good. Just have the desire to "do more" I suppose.

I'm an Office Manger. I do the accounting for a plumbing contracting business, and I play mommy to 15 plumbers all day long. They whine more than my 3 year old.
