Workin' 9-5

Regarding Green+White's comment that she would be pissed if she was a caseworker too (implying it's a horrible job to have) let me ask other people here (if they choose to answer) what everyone does for a living? It's nice to see so many Greeks talk about the various positions they have (whether it be service related or not) to prove once again that Greeks are ambitious and really do make a difference in the world....As far as her comment to imply that I have a horrible job because I choose to make a low-paying salary helping combat child abuse while going into some dangerous situations-then yes, I am very ashamed that my day is spent trying to keep kids safe (even if it means stepping in when a parent thinks dressing their child in name brand clothing takes priority over their safety by taking them to fraternity parties...hint-hint...)...

Little does she know that I am a war veteran who served in Iraq with the Army and I'm currently a graduate student....please-anyone and everyone...tell us...who are you and what do you do for living that makes you proud??? :)

I am the ED/CEO of a nonprofit that works to help place the children that you work with who end up becoming state wards in permanent loving homes--away from the abuse.

This probably should be moved to the Chit Chat forum. It's not really Greek related.

Agree except for the part of taking children to fraternity parties.

Number one: That's awesome you work with kids-and Thank you for your service....

Number two: Peppy, sorry-I figured since I was asking about Greeks who have accomplished something it was considered Greek Related so, I didn't really mean to post this in the wrong area....any feedback is great, though!

Number three: I freakin' love Greek Chat (if I haven't said that before)...Okay-I'm done.....:)

Well, really when you consider that the whole audience of this message board is Greek, everyone's always asking Greeks about something. But, the Greek Life forum is for issues related to greek life, aka the greek system in general.

*waves to a fellow person in the non-profit sector!* :D

I work in the Hawaii office of a large national incorporated non-profit. Depending on what time of the year it is, I'm either a Grants Specialist or an Event Coordinator. Wearing different hats makes the job exciting and very worthwhile. I don't think I've ever had a dull moment here.

One of the best parts of my job (besides helping others, of course) probably has to be the networking. At 28 years old, I've rubbed elbows with many of Hawaii's community/government leaders, CEOs, top executives, etc. just by being a representative of my organization. I don't have too many friends my age who can say that. ;)

I own "The Tax Store." It's a small tax office, in a nearby town. I specialize in people who want their money quickly, but don't want to pay H&R Block prices. I work around 70 hours a week 4 months a year (Jan.-April), and then I go into my office maybe once a week the other 8 months. :D

The rest of the year I stay at the pool, beach or golf course.

That's awesome! See-that's what I mean...it's great to see so many people in our community (whether you are from my GLO or not) doing so well...I get excited when I find out someone else that I know or work with is a Greek....I love it!!!

I defend people who are accused of crimes that cannot afford a private attorney. :)

And I go to law school. :(

What a wonderful idea...I hope you have tons of success! I know your job must be horribly difficult. Unfortunately, people who want kids and can't have them want babies not abused children who need their love.

And...I am a physician trained in Radiology. I just joined a private practice in a community hospital in Prince George's County, Maryland. My patient population is underserved with advanced cases...very similar to my indigent population at my training hospital in Louisiana. It is fascinating but heart breaking work. I love my job!

I work for a nonprofit helping middle school children who are considered "at risk" or who are already engaging in risky behaviors to educate them on the risks associated with their behavior and provide them with opportunities to become involved in their community. (And I'm a grad student... :) )
