Can anyone tell me which house might be cob..ing. I have heard of a couple, but if anyone else has info I would love to pass it on to my daughter. I also heard that this was a record number of girls who dropped out..rumor or fiction? My daughter has talked to many girls and all of them said that they were never told about snap bids. If you drop out you are not qualified for this. It seems to me that when you formally dropped out at Memorial Hall that the Panhellinic advisors should have made this very clear. Live and learn I quess.

I still don't get how any house is allowed to take in Quota Plus when other houses haven't even made quota. If it's to get the total number to ceiling, I DO understand. Any clarification??

Well, when you consider that they start with about the same number of girls as Alabama, they only have two more chapters, but their quota is around 30 girls less than the projected quota at Bama....I'd say, a lot drop out.
And after saying that, I will warn you that I had a major with no math required, so take it for what it's worth.

A quota addition happens when a girl puts all the chapters she preffed on her bid card and still doesn't end up with a bid before all the chapters make quota. This is done so that a PNM who maximizes her options and holds up her end of the bargain isn't penalized.
If a PNM is added as a quota addition, then every chapter she preffed must have made quota. A chapter that didn't make quota isn't being penalized b/c that PNM didn't pref them - that chapter wasn't an option for her during bid matching.
Example -
Chapters ABC, DEF, and GHI all made quota.
Chapter XYZ did not.
Polly PNM prefs at ABC, DEF, and GHI, and ranks them all on her bid card. She will get a bid to one of those 3 sororities - whether through the regular bid matching process, or if those 3 sororities fill up, she'll be added to one as a quota addition.
Chapter XYZ doesn't come into play b/c she didn't pref there, so its not a possibility for Polly. (Maybe XYZ cut Polly after 2nd round, etc.)

so....if all 3 of Polly's prefs make quota who gets to take her as a QA ---- Polly's 1st choice?
It seems that is Polly didn't really want to go to her 3rd choice so she left it off and then choice 1 and 2 made quota before taking her, couldn't she then also be a QA for her 1st choice or not at all because she didn't put down #3?

You are correct that if Polly lists all 3 choices and ends up needing to be placed as a Quota Addition, she could potentially end up with her first choice.
If she leaves her #3 choice off the list completely, she's not eligible to be a quota addition at all. If choice #1 and #2 make quota before getting to her, she'll end up without a bid.
You have to maximize your options (list every chapter you attended for pref on your bid card) in order to be eligible as a Quota Addition.

I've recently found out that a lot of what I thought I knew about rush at UGA is wrong, but the way I understand it it that she would be completely ineligible to be a quota addition if she didn't list all three. It's a reward for maximizing your options, and she wouldn't have.
(and apparently, it's not a guaranteed reward. A girl who maximized her options can still end up without a bid.)

If a chapter hits or goes over chapter total by taking quota, would they be able to take a quota addition?
That's one situation where I could see a PNM who maximized her options not getting a bid...she prefs 3 chapters who go over chapter total by taking quota. Since each chapter is already over total, maybe they couldn't take a quota addition? (just a guess, but it seems like a likely possibility...)

I have no idea. A friend of mine politely pointed out that I had bad information about girls getting bids for maximizing options, and now I realize how little I really do know.
It appears to me that some groups I would guess would be over total took additions, but I just don't know.

I'm not sure about COB right now, but please tell your daughter to call or stop by Greek Life as soon as classes begin when she returns to school in January after winter break. Some of the sororities on campus may very likely hold COB events starting then. I remember seeing fliers posted in the Tate Student Center when I worked on campus, but I would definitely contact Greek Life and let them know I was interested.
I am an advisor to Gamma Phi Beta at UGA and I used to work at UGA although it isn't my alma mater.

Any house that did not pledge to quota is eligible to COB. That doesn't mean they will. Some opt not to.

Do you mean any house that did not reach "total", not quota. You can reach quota and still COB if you are not at "Total"
