I honestly can't see it "flying" at any of the places I've been involved in, but wow, the idea of "grooming" your own NM classes before they're even enrolled, now THAT'S pro-active recruiting!!!
Interesting...correct.

Maybe I'm in a snarky mood today, but I think what is described in this type of recruitment creates more stereotypes of the Greek System. It's almost archaic.

I would be much more proud to be Greek in a school that advertises like MIT Panhel (another thread) and focuses on the future careers and intelligence of their women.

Senior and some junior girls in high school are invited to spend the weekend in Tuscaloosa and hang out with the girls in the chapter. They go to band parties, dinner and possibly the game if they can get a ticket. Chapters also have letter-writings during the year and send little notes to pnm's on their rush list just to say hello/congratulate on winning an award/happy birthday/whatever else. Many chapters have started doing "hometown dinners" where 15 or so chapter members go to the hometowns of girls and they all go out to a restaurant together. So for instance all the Birmingham girls being rushed will get together and go to cheesecake factory or pf changs with some of the actives. All of these things are in addition to what someone has called "sip and sees". We just call them teas. This all continues until around May 5 when no contact starts for bama.

I doubt LilyLover has a problem with the actual Spring Recruitment at Bama. I think it's more the recruiting methods of chapters to make girls "love us" before fall recruitment or even their senior year of high school.

Well, when you think about it (and I know James would agree with me if he read this) they really have gone along with the terminology change and are "recruiting." They target women they want to have as sisters and do things to make themselves appealing to them. They focus their efforts on the people who they think will be the best fit and do the most for their group.

It's only a problem because there are women who aren't "recruited" who think that everyone comes into rush on a level playing field.

I think this goes on in all chapters to some extent with HS girls, just maybe not in this "official" or organized of a manner.

I have a question about all this....how is this not considered dirty rushing?

How are chapters still spending thousands of dollars on rush parties when all of NPC were supposed to go "no frills" 10+ years ago? How is there such a blatant tier system that it has a NAME?

It's a part of that campus's culture and I'm guessing that anyone who said anything against it would suffer far worse consequences than the sorority that they reported.

It depends on the collegiate panhellenic's recruitment rules and how these things are conducted.

On one campus, it may be OK to send notes to PMs on behalf of ABC or XYZ chapter. On another campus, notes are written only on behalf of the collegiate panhellenic.

As for the hometown dinners, as long as the members don't talk about their sorority, it's OK. Somewhere else it may be OK only if two or three groups get together.
