It was sort of like a really horrible soap opera which was spectacular and riveting in its excessiveness.

And Carnation turned it off fifteen minutes before the end of the series finale.

And hey, ADPiUCF, don't you worry, Bulldog tissues are available for my recruitment thread related crying needs.

Actually, I don't really have them (or a Bulldog pillow which was an excellent image, nice work on that), but I'm sure UGA tissues exist and that they are probably top sellers. It frightens me sometimes to think of the fan that really buys all that stuff and puts it in one red and black room used almost exclusively for watching UGA athletic competitions. Those fans are out there and there are hundreds of thousands of them apparently.

I never understood the whole sorority tissues thing. I love my letters - but to blow my nose with? Nope - I'll pass

I'm lapsing into crudeness here, but I find the issue of what toilet paper to put in a college football mascot shaped toilet paper perplexing in a similar way: your team or your rivals?

And yes, there are college football related toilet paper dispensers and I think I've seen college toilet papers. These are designed for the powder room off the red and black room.

I really don't think she was going to finish it!

How could she really? There was no way to wrap that all up.

You almost certainly made the right call because it was going to degenerate pretty quickly even further, and once you've started speculating about transsexuals and legacy status, where else is there to go?

I will always remain a little curious about where she intended to go with it had we not given her the huff and flounce option.
(or in her case, the pretend huff and flounce. I thought the threatening was a nice touch of crazy CGer realism in an otherwise over-the-top thread.)

i too am somewhat saddened that we will never here the rest of her story, whether it was true or just make believe. however i will not miss her chewing everybody out in between posts for speculating. maybe the stress of her job is getting to her. not trying to be mean, but she did come unglued fairly quickly over a couple of silly comments that were probably meant to be funny.

Yeah, for someone who was so busy reading important documents at work all day, she really had a bit of free time to post... and I wonder how old she was. No offense intended to those of you who post in a font color other than black, but that usually signals someone who is younger (still in school). Which takes me back to the Sweet Valley High references.

The whole thing was just a riot.

(Who in RL when told that a work of fiction is remarkably similar to her life story, basically response with "well, I have no interest in reading that?" Most of us would be really interested, and it'd be a reason to seek out something we wouldn't normally be interested in. "My life story in young adult literature; you don't say? I'll look into that" seems a more realistic response, it seems to me. )

And whatever compelled the writer to start it probably would have compelled her to keep going; fighting, snipping, and pretending, but it has all the signs of a trainwreck, so the lock is understandable. I think moderators are obligated to pretend that the OP is real when things are degenerating. Most of us had basically called the OP a liar one way or another, and if she was real, that wouldn't be acceptable.

But still, I do want to know what a person (even a fictional character) who is demonstrated to think like that would do to the rest of the story.

About not identifying chapters in retro-threads, I think it builds suspense. Even if you know the final GLO, you can still wonder if your group is in the running. And it can free people up to say what they really thought while still being panhellenic in spirit if they never ID all the groups.

I want to know: Is there such a thing as an "All State Homecomming Queen"? That sounds like something I made up when I was playing "Pretend High School" when I was 10.

When I went through recruitment last year I was promised a bid by a really good friend of mine who claimed she had some pull with her bid committee. So, I went through recruitment not being open minded and expecting to be loved by the girls in her sorority. Every night a few of them would come up to me saying "Oh I'm so glad you're here, you're our girl!" Then the third night of recruitment, I "fell of the list" of my dream sorority. By that time I hadn't really given any other orgs a chance to get to know me or for me to find out what my other options were. I dropped out of recruitment and was devastated. Luckily, a lot of my friends joined DZ and through them, I got to know the president and a lot of other girls and I was given an open bid in November. I hate seeing girls who have their heart set on one sorority and don't give the other ones a chance. It really can just lead to getting your heart broken when a great group of girls could be right under your nose!

I was reading that teaser thread as well, but I don't remember carnation having anything to do with recruitment not finishing her story.

I have to agree, though I was really wanting to read the end of it. I don't disagree with carnation's decision because it was getting out of hand. I almost wish she would make a short thread just to tell the end of her and her sister's recruitment.

Whether it was true or fake, I'm with you. Just tell us everyone's GLO (legacy ones and pledged ones) using the code names.

I don't get why people use code names in retro threads. You aren't going to screw up your chances because you already intiated by the time you posted your retro thread.

You can still be discreet--- just have a section of outtakes where you describe all of the weirdness and craziness in total-- without naming names.

Only that she locked the thread, I thought.
In my almost a year reading GreekChat, I've noticed that most people, myself included, can't really stay away from a dramatic thread even when they say they will.
So I suspect that "Recruitment" would be back for more if the thread were still open. But who knows? Maybe she IS real person who really had an epiphany about women on GC not being worth telling her story too.
But I think she was either the sock-puppet of a regular user or a new (ish) poster who elected to make up a recruitment story for drama and attention.
Since it's bad GC manners to take a locked topic into another thread (which is kind of what I'm doing now, sorry), alas, I think we only got about 75% of the possible entertainment of the thread.
