They should swing that way or you must look really weird when you walk!  They go in opposition to help us balance properly.

I guess I should have been more spesific, I don't swing my arms when I walk. I either lightly touch my thighs, or sometimes my tummy (if I don't have something in my hands).

Thinking of how the horse's legs move at a trot - and then thinking of how to get on the right beat, and then how human arms would move while "trotting". I told you, I think it's weird, but I did get the question right.
