Wow! I didn't realize they taped that many episodes already. I knew they started showing the episodes in a few states a while back, but I didn't know they were up to 40!!!

You made history again!
What can I say? I remember last year HOUSE OF PAYNE aired ten episodes in only ten markets. And when the first shows aired I got a lot of messages on the message board saying what they liked and didn't like. I remember sending an email asking those who didn't like the show to be patient with it and just watch. Well by the last of the ten episodes a lot of you who had reservations about the show were in love with it. You may remember that.
The same is true here. It's very hard to do a sitcom because you have to set up the characters and get people involved in them and that takes time. It's hard to explain and develop characters especially when you only have 22 minutes in an episode. It's much easier in plays and in movies where I have hours. So, with all of that said I want to assure you that you have not seen the best of HOUSE OF PAYNE.
I know that you're busy and your time is precious, but what I would ask that you do, those of you who will, is to continue to watch HOUSE OF PAYNE on Wednesday at 9. I think a lot of you are going to be pleased and surprised at the direction the show takes on. I'm only asking you to commit to the next five weeks…that's it! If you are not drawn in by then, then this may not be your type of show, but those of you who will, you'll see this show is going to turn up the heat in a minute.
To my Die Hard, Ride or Die folks, those of you that have been with me through all of this, thank you for the love and support. WOW is all I can say. When you have favor with God He gives you favor with man. And I can see that to be true with all of you.
Thank you for giving this cast a helping hand. Nobody, I mean nobody would give them a break. And they are so talented. As you watch you will see what I mean. So just be a little patient with the show and stick it out with your boy then you'll see what I mean. And thank you to all of you that watched, as well as went to the message board. We need the feed back--the good as well as the not so good. Just know that I appreciate it and I respect it. I don't care what any critics say as long as I'm getting the real from you. And a lot of ya'll gave me the real! (smile)
I am so grateful to God to have people like you in my corner. You made such a difference. HOUSE OF PAYNE was and is the highest rated debut of a sitcom in basic cable history. By you all watching you sent the ratings 94% higher than what was expected. The launch was amazing! Thank you for helping so many deserving people realize their dreams,
and for helping us to make history.
So please continue to watch if you can. "Meet the Browns" is my next sitcom starring Cora and Brown and it is all ready to go. So by you continuing to watch you are helping to pave the way for that one.
Thank you...
TYLER P

Ditto. I liked it! It wasn't as funny as I thought it'd be, but like I said before, I often laugh at the corny jokes that no one else does. I think the shows ended too fast though, like they just left off at entirely the wrong spot. And there's definitely some overacting, but it was still funny to me!

For those who are trying to watch it on TBS.com...
Are you having trouble with the episodes playing? I've tried several times but all it would play is that Pine-Sol ad.

uhhh...is this a drama or comedy? i'm really trying to give it a chance, but i feel like i'm watching a scene/scenes from "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" with the crackhead storyline...also, Tyler P. sure is obsessed with "The A"....but the references they make are wayyyyyyyy off....like, if she was going to be a crackhead, I'd imagine she'd be hangin' out on Stewart Ave, not Ponce de Leon....

Needs work. I watched my first episode last night. The uncle was very funny to me. His jokes were fresh in that I hadnt seen them in a sitcom before. The concept is good. That family could be one that I would know. But the crackhead wifes over acting, and the aunt's overacting and timing needs work. There is something weird about the space the aunt keeps between herself and others. It makes sense in plays but on television it looks weird. Overall, I'd watch it again.

I feel like all of his plays and movies are colliding into House of Payne all at once. When are we going to leave crackheads alone? Is that the only problem we can focus on? Why does the son have to be such a mama's boy? Why can't his aspirations as well as his execution be higher in life? (I know, I know that I am overanalyzing his role/character, etc.)

I noticed that as well last night.
So the aunt and uncle are from Madea Goes to Jail. The mom is from Meet the Browns and the little girl is from Daddy's Little Girls. Wonder who will emerge next?

Why the crackheads gotta hang on the Southside? Crackheads can be anywhere, and if you've driven on a side street near Ponce or been to the Masquerade on a Friday, you know there are some crackheads around the area. Besides, you know "they" (I don't know who "they" is) renamed Stewart Ave, and it's now Metropolitan.
I agree with finding another vice (food addiction, shopping/gambling when there's no spare money, internet addiction [they could research that on GC...]). Drugs are definitely still a terrible addiction, but it's played.
PS I can't bring myself to watch it. I may try it again, but I initially gave it a show by watching two eps when it was first shown. Never impressed me.

^^^ Although I recognize that Bankhead was renamed Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy for a prominent civil rights attorney who actually played a great role in the Civil Rights Movement, I still know that it's Bankhead.
Let Tyler Perry go all the way back with Atlanta references by mentioning "The Omni". LOL
