She might be asking all this because the Tri Sigmas had their formal this past weekend. Since I seriously doubt she's a new member (Jocelyn i PM'ed you), then she didn't get to go to the formal, and is probably wondering what she missed out on

Read the whole thread. She's definitely not a new member. I PMed you about the whole fiasco.

This thread is pretty funny. So what are all of yalls policies, then, about attending fraternity formals at hotels or out of town? Formals in New Orleans and places like that are definitely not out of the ordinary down here or at other schools in the South.

It's not our RM Insurance that covers Fraternity formals, so there are no sorority policies. Unless stick-up-the-ass chapters have chapter by-laws due to "ladylike-ness".

Same here - we can't have/sponsor overnight formals of our own b/c of risk management issues. But the Fraternity formal or event sponsored by some other organization (ex - MSU had a Ski Club that took weekend ski trips) that an individual sister or two was attending on their own - not as a chapter event - would be okay.

I suspect that most of the NPC groups have the same/similar rules regarding overnights.

The only thing we were allowed to overnight as sisters were sister sleepovers, rush retreat, and obviously leadership and conventions, and anything that can be used to better the organization. An overnight weekend trip with boys and 21+ drinking doesn't really fall into those categories. I think it also has to do with risk management... not sure.

But even if every XYZ sorority member went to ABC's fraternity formal, it wouldn't make any difference, because it's still an ABC event and falls under ABC's RM.
